As it seems I'm missing so many Clint Eastwood films from my collection and knowledge base, that sounds like a set worth looking into.

Sometimes I can see why they do new covers but I think they should stick to the original Poster art

Just watched Escape from Alcatraz again.

Its a great film, very near the top of Clint's output in my view.

Does anyone else here rate it highly?

Or not as the case may be.

The movie is well-made. Clint is acting well, too. However, I dislike the movie itself a bit. In my eyes, there's not enough to enjoy in it - the subject is too sad and too gruelling.

But as I said: it's definitely a good movie.

Greetings!

I take it you don't like Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby for the same reasons?

I think it's the mood of the movie Escape from Alcatraz that I just don't like. To be blunt, I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet.

But I most certainly loved Gran Torino - Clint is badass in this flick and it has a great message. Great mixture of serious and funny scenes, too.

Greetings!

Escape is a film I need to revisit soon!

Gran Torino was a classic Eastwood outing and may well be his swansong to his 'toughguy' output....

You may be right.

However, I would love seeing him reprise his classic Dirty Harry character - why not teach a police newbie to become a modern badass cop by showing him how he did it in the 70s and 80s?

Sorry, I'm just dreaming.

Greetings!

wasn't there a screenplay muted something like 'Duel of Magnums' where a young liberal cop takes over the .44 after Harry dies at the end. late 80s or something, doubt if Clint wanted the character to die yet. Think it was talked about on a radio4 film show like 'Kalidascope' or whatever.
