What Asian Action Films Have You Seen Recently

I was looking for a correct thread to write that I have just watched SPL Kill Zone and realised that one didn't really exist.

So here it is...

I watched SPL for the second time today. It stars Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung as cop and crime boss respective. There seemed to be a lot more drama in it when I watched it this time Im sure I remeber at least one more fight scene. Maybe thats because the fight scenes that are there are so awsome.

The final battle between Yen and Hung is a sight to behold!!! For a big guy Sammo Hung can really move and he easily gives Donnie Yen who must be quite a few years his junior a run for his money.

A must for all martial arts fans!!

had a chance to pick up SPL but went with Robin B Hood instead. I didn't realise how badass Sammo was until a chance viewing of the Magnificent Butcher, for a fat man he can move like the clappers...

Sammo is a living legend. It is my aim in life to see every film he has made.... and I'm almost there.

Wow there's quite a few of them out there!
I like Sammo Hung as well I find him very underated.
I just watched him in a few movies recently?
What movies of his haven't you seen yet?

Most of the Sammo films I haven't seen are either just cameo or support roles. Some are rare Shaw Brothers from the late sixties to early seventies, but for most of them Sammo worked as fight choreographer or stunt arranger. It seems like quite a list when I write them down, but he has been very busy, sometimes making 4 or 5 films a year:-

The Jade Raksha (1968)
The Magnificent Swordsman (1968)
Death Valley (1968)
Dragon Swamp (1969)
Mad, Mad Sword (1969)
The Fragrant Sword (1969)
Vengeance Is a Golden Blade (1969)
The One-armed Magic Nun (1969)
The Devil Warrior (1969)
A Taste of Cold Steel (1970)
The Iron Buddha (1970)
The Golden Knight (1970)
Wrath of the Sword (1970)
Swordsman at Large (1971)
Vengeance of a Snowgirl (1971)
The Lady Hermit (1971)
The Devil's Mirror (1972)
Trilogy of Swordsmanship (1972)
The Imperial Swordsman (1972)
The Fugitive (1972)
Life for Sale (1973)
Village of Tigers (1974)
The Young Rebel (1975)
Tiger of Northland (1976)
No Problem (1999)
14 Blades (2010)

Some are no loger available or have never had a DVD release.

What films have you been watching, Gigantor?

Gigantor 29th August 2010 02:25 PM

Yeah thats one thing with Sammo Hung films is alot er most of them are hard to find.Funimation is putting outTHE LADY HERMIT out on DVD in the very near future.
Recently saw ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPOOKY KIND 1&2 and PAINTED SKIN

DeadAlive 29th August 2010 02:44 PM

Encounters Of The Spooky Kind 2 could do with a quality DVD release. It's not as good as the first film, which is a bonafide classic, but Lam Ching Ying makes it a lot of fun.

I recently bought the new Kam & Ronson HK DVD release of Painted Skin to replace my tatty old VCD. I'm ashamed to say I still haven't got around to watching it yet. :o

Not the same as Part 1 but is till enjoy ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPOOKY KIND 2
so when you finish watching all the Sammo Hung films are you going to do a book or something.

THe new Painted Skin was just so so for me

Sammo is one of my favourite stars of H.K. cinema.
