At the risk of hijacking this thread, and apologies to Mr. Dakin if that happens, but what do people think of 'Tom and Jerry'?

When I was a child, in the 70's and early 80's, it seemed that whenever the BBC had 5 minutes of space in their programming, they would put on a 'Tom and Jerry' cartoon

I loved those fillers!

But I seem to recall a lot of controversy about them - both the 'racist' elements (the housekeeper was a real "lawdy lawdy' big Momma character) and also the 'violence' that was seen in those cartoons - and so they were taken off the screen. This would have been about the same time as the video nasties scandal

I cannot remember the last time I saw a 'Tom and Jerry ' cartoon on the television

What are your memories of them?

When was the last time you saw 'Tom and Jerry' on television?

Early Hanna/Barbera Tom & Jerry are some of the greatest cartoon films ever made. The quality tailed off towards the end of the 50s and early 60s, but then it picked up a bit with Chuck Jones's time at the helm and his new approach.

The franchise has been pretty miserable since Chuck's day, sadly. But the classics are there. I don't have my tapes any more and keep meaning to get some DVD releases of the good stuff.

Looney Tunes so many great cartoons i used to have loads of VHS tapes of these think they all broke from being watched so much. All these classics still stand up today and still make me laugh. I feel sorry for this generation what classics will they look back on.

Tom and Jerry annoyed me, as I always wanted Tom to catch and devour Jerry. Ditto Sylvester and Tweety Pie.

Some of the cartoons I grew up with:

Count Duckula:

Funny Bones:

He-Man:

Inspector Gadget:

The Raccoons:

Sharky & George:

Teenage Mutant 'Hero' Turtles:

Thundercats:

Benny wins a trip to Hawaii on a ship. This leads to Top Cat and the rest of the gang joining him on his trip by stowing away. Things take a drastic turn as Officer Dibble also ends up aboard the ship and the discovery of a suitcase containing counterfeit money leads to Top Cat and the gang being thrown into the brig as suspect counterfeiters. However, with Top Cat's assistance, Officer Dibble is able to catch the actual counterfeiter and verify the gang's innocence.
