If I remember rightly there's a gore scene included in one of the trailers for Joe D'Amato's Anthropophagus that never made it into the final cut of the film. It's the scene where the blind girl's head is pulled through the roof. The deleted scene in question shows all the skin being stripped off her face as she's pulled through the jagged tiles. This scene isn't in the uncut print that's contained in the Shriek Show DVD edition. It could be that something similar happened to ZFE.

You know what I meant, I even put it in Italics. Quote:

I watched the Shriek Show DVD last night, and even the Camera Operator recalls a scene with Zombies coming out of the water. But it sounded like they had problems with it. I'm not sure how these things works, but similar to what you said, if they knew they weren't gonna use certain footage, given their limited funds, maybe they didn't even get it printed properly, so the chances of some work print footage showing up is slim at best. |

Not quite, but I see that there is "additional" footage on the dvd (and blu??) that I found in T***o, which may explain that.....

Yeah, Captain Haggerty says that he was filmed from the back, rising from the water in what was going to be at the end of the film. He also recalls some other zombies rising out of the water as well, this time filmed from the front.

I'm sure if the zombie coming out of the water still existed it would have appeared on a release by now, one of the many companies that have released Zombi 2 would have found it. There aren't all that many deleted scenes from older films as the material would often be destroyed, not like today when all deleted scenes are usually kept for future home video releases.

Another Fulci film that has an extended gore scene not included in the final picture is "The Black Cat". In the trailer, the scene when David Warbeck discovers Daniele Doria's body after she suffocates in the boat house with her lover, is far more graphic and lingering than the final release, there's a noticeable jump cut in the shameless release (and the Anchor Bay R1 disc as far as I remember) compared to scene in the trailer here. Yes, quite possibly, even in the old VTC Pre cert VHS, that scene is cut short. The jump is very noticeable and crude. But It seems to have been done before the film was actually released because originally, Fulci had a cameo as a Doctor which is no where to be seen although he's in the credits. So it might not be an imposed censorship cut by a ratings board but the directors/editors choice. It's strange that it's cut because it's very effective and the scene is poorer for the cut. I've always had a soft spot for his take on "The Black Cat". It always seems to get a hard time from fans disappointed by the toned down gore level in Fucli terms but even as one of his more low key efforts, I think it's wonderfully atmospheric, well shot and with a greatly memorable performance from Patrick Magee. |
