First review of The Car:

Quote:
As mentioned above, I’ve only ever seen THE CAR panned and scanned on TV, so Arrow’s Blu-ray 2.35:1 widescreen transfer is the revelation it could not help but be. Best served are the daylight shots of Utah, which look just fabulous. There’s quite a bit of grain in some of the night shots but overall this is a handsome transfer, and undoubtedly the best this film will have ever looked on home video. Extras include the aforementioned commentary and turn from John Landis, guesting in a segment from ‘Trailers From Hell’. There’s also a featurette in which special effects artist William Alridge remembers working on the design of the car, and another where actor John Rubinstein reminisces about playing the French horn and getting squashed. There’s also the usual reversible sleeve and a collector’s booklet with an essay and an interview with co-writer Michael Butler. An Easter Egg reveals a short video interview with director Elliot Silverstein. I’d tell you how to find it but it’s so obvious you won’t miss it.

dvdbeaver are fans too:

Arrow - Region 'B' Blu-ray - July 2013': The superlative new 1080P transfer from Arrow breathes new life into The Car when compared to the 5-year old, flat SD release. The comparative captures identify the upgrade - passive but more layered colors, depth, superior contrast exporting a more film-like appearance. There is a touch more information in the frame - in the top and left edges. Skin tones cool to a more natural state and it looks sharper. This is dual-layered with a high bitrate and is a solid transfer.

Audio is in an authentic linear PCM stereo track at 1536 kbps. It sounds quite buoyant with the many effects exported with some depth. The original score is by Leonard Rosenman who has done a fair amount of TV work. It seems well supported by the lossless transfer. There are optional English subtitles on the region 'B'-locked Blu-ray.

It is indeed a wonderful transfer of an awesome movie.

I have already reviewed it at AVforums and given it a huge thumbs-up! Very highly recommended indeed.

Sorry, can't post the link yet. Still a rookie over here.

Cheers,

Chris

Mine arrived yesterday morning and I watched it in the evening. I hadn't seen it before some really didn't know what to expect and quite enjoyed it. I'll definitely watch it a couple more times in the coming weeks and check out the commentary.

I'd not really paid attention to this release, but think I'll check it out after reading a few decent reviews . . .
