All-New All-Old-Skool Arrow Video Ident!

So most of you by now know (or may have gathered) I'm a sucker for the old days of video - especially the branding. The lurid yellow tones of Shameless seem to have been popular and with Arrow Video we're going for clinical white cases and white bordered sleeve to really let the lurid artwork sing out.

That's only part of it though - to be properly cool you have to have a brand ident to make people weak in anticipation of what's about to play out. So an all-new old skool Arrow Video has been commissioned and here it is...

This was designed by Dean Harmer at aitch : creative limited after a barrage of suggestions I threw at him and what I love the most is that it looks proper analogue old!

Thats a great idea!:woot:

Funnily enough I spoke to the BVA about whether we could use the old Simon Bates intros. They (very nicely) sent me back a very tired response about people asking about this and no it's long out of copyright.

That has reminded me though I've been swapping e-mails with Simon of late - must ask him what he thinks.

I think more fun could be had with the opening of DVDs - I'll let you know if we advance anything :)

Aside from that - what do you think about the ident?

That ident is ****ing sweet!

Made me feel all nostalgic.

I haven't got sound here, but I am hoping it's accompanied by some fitting keyboard organ music?

Almar@Cult Labs 28th April 2009 12:25 PM

Oh it's pretty relentless crashing electric organ muzak!

Was it Harry Enfeild who done a spoof of those intros? This film may contain sexual swear words such as bollocks!

That's a sweet Ident you got there! Looking forward to sampling the muzak when I get home! ha.

I'd do the intro.

Dress up like a middle aged man, maybe wear one of those houndstooth jackets that sportscasters used to wear, that swirled with psychedelic patterns on an old TV

The idea is good - doing it well is where I suspect it gets a bit harder but that's a challenge I'm willing to throw out to the good members of Cult Labs.

this is very cool. and yes, somehow manages to look genuinely analogue.
and to think i missed it on my dvd cuz i have it set to skip the usual crappy idents and anti-piracy spiel.

i also love the dvd covers' white border, spectrum thing and logo... they really capture the 80s video nasty look. looking through my copy of 'shock horror', one of the things i love about those covers is the contrast between the slick, shiny, 80s company logos like Rainbow Video's, and the depraved illustrations underneath them.

Almar@Cult Labs 27th July 2009 11:14 AM

Cool - glad you like it. I agree the contrast between logos and artwork could be great fun - who can forget those Thorn EMI titles - big corporate logo floating above some wonderfully depraved artworks.
