Do tell more! How did Lamberto and Ruggero enjoy it?

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 29th June 2009 04:43 PM

Unfortunately I had to skip Macabre due to an early rise this morning...:(
But,hey Ruggero looked as if he was having a ball.I got me pic taken with him and Lamberto Bava:cool:
A big well done to Callum who had this organised down to a tee.;)
Hopefully with the good attendance, there'll be more.:woot:
Also met the elusive Loops....another cool dude.
Don't know how he managed to carry that rucksack with all the DVD's Deodato and Bava had to sign....they went home to Italy with writer's cramp....:D

Sounds like it was a great event, wish I could of been there. :(

Ironically I was in Edinburgh this weekend, and on the drive up I ached to detour off and carry on to Glasgow for this everytime I saw a road sign... ;):D Maybe next year. :(

Thanks for the kind words. This was my fourth festival with Ruggero and third with Lamberto and Mr. Deodato kindly said that I was the best organiser he had ever met!

The good news is that, after the sold out screenings and incredibly positive buzz that surrounded this, a follow-up event is sure to happen. Watch this space!

I am going to email Almar some pics from the weekend that he can put up here. All in, though, it really was a fantastic two days and I think everyone who bought a ticket would agree they got a bargain - especially since both Ruggero and Lamberto patiently signed every last autograph and posed for every single picture. Absolutely no one went away disappointed!

And after taking them to Loch Lommond yesterday Lamberto actually said he'd love to buy a wee house up there!

A little write up of the weekend:

It was totally fantastic and well put together and Calum deserves a big pat on the back for such a well run event! :woot:

That was the best night ever!

Calum is the greatest guy ever, he invited me out for drinks with them and he bought me porn!

I also met Reaps who is also a great guy. He gave me the VIPCO dvd of The Bogeyman.

Excellent write-up DVD Trash - anyone else who went along please share your thoughts - it'll help persuade the right people to do more of these events.

Hats off to Calum for coming up with the idea in the first place and for pulling it all off and getting over and looking after two guys I know we all, as informed fans, consider screen legends.

Also a big thank you to Alex, Sarah and Laura at Arrow for all their help and support. Alex has taken the unusual risk in this perilous climate for cult DVD to spend the buck on extras, a packaging concept that initially scared off retail in some quarters, creating extra time and spending yet more (something he's had to get used with me!) on getting the film presentation right and then shelling out to support this excellent Glasgow event.

Sarah has suffered through the numerous delights that come with the territory of preparing DVDs for production and pulling off some nifty fast moves right against deadline and Laura looked after packing those goody bags together so thanks guys for all that effort.

Hats off also to Marc Morris for his work on the DVDs and to the GFT for having the vision to show crazy old giallos. Back in my days in Glasgow and Scotland in general no one was doing this kind of thing and I'm so chuffed it happened. Sadly I couldn't be there but I plan to hang my hat on a date for the next event - rest assured!

Galsgow is a really nice place, very similar to liverpool. The hotel i stayed in was great.

The train journey home was hell though. I left at 12:00 and didnt get back home until 4:50:ack:

The whole event was so well organised, Deodato and Bava ( i recorded Bava's Q&A ) seemed very happy with whole thing. If this become's a regular thing i will be up every time.

Calum's a top bloke, no argument there. One of these days I'll actually meet the guy and buy him a pint!

So when are we going to see an event in the South Wales region - you can count me in for that. I'm itching to get out and meet people...yes, I'm very much a hermit, though I have my DVDs to keep me company. Oh yeah...and the missus, but they don't count as 'real people' do they?

Pete 30th June 2009 10:48 AM

It was first time i met him; we had been exchanging e-mails ( and dvd's ) since last year. I really appreciate the fact that he invited me out with them, i doubt anyone else would.

Every one i met was real friendly, although i did feel slightly out of place as they all worked journalism/film in some way.
