According to Play, Phenomena is also getting a release.

Concerning Tenebrae, will the extras from the Anchor Bay DVD be transferred over to the new version?

THIS AMAZING 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION CONTAINS:

- Reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned art work

- Double-sided fold out Poster

- Collector’s Booklet featuring brand new writing on Inferno by Alan Jones, author of Profondo Argento

- High Definition Presentation of the film (1080p)

- Optional 7.1 DTS-HD/2.0 Stereo Audio

SPECIAL FEATURES:

- Introduction to Inferno by star Daria Nicolodi

- Dario's Inferno (16 mins interview with Dario Argento)

- Acting in Hot Water: An Interview with Daria Nicolodi (18 mins interview)

- The Other Mother: Making the Black Cat (16 mins) In 1989 director Luigi Cozzi (a long time friend and collaborator of Dario Argento) decided to make the unofficial follow-up to Inferno and 'complete' the Three Mothers legacy. This feature looks at the torrid history of The Black Cat, with plenty of clips too!

- Dario Argento: An Eye for Horror (57 mins) Mark Kermode narrates this documentary on Argento’s career including interviews with George A. Romero and John Carpenter

- The Complete Dario Argento Trailer Gallery [18 films]

- Easter Egg (5 mins of Dario Argento in English, with random memories of Inferno)

For TENEBRAE expect three new interviews (ala INFERNO) and for DEEP RED expect a rather mega five new featurettes! We're trying to do some good new stuff for all these Argento classics and hope you guys enjoy them!

There were, obviously, the occasional hitch (i.e. Lamberto Bava being unavailable, due to a shoot in Malta, for DEMONS) but we've tried to still bring you some gnarly new stuff all the same.

And the release dates Play have listed are still up in the air I think....
wow nice release for Inferno and Deep Red.
I own Tenebrae in the ABUS steelbook so wont be double dipping on that one.

And I agree on that fact that its not a good idea to buy cut releases so I do hope they are uncut.

Will the video/audio presentation be the same for TENEBRAE and DEEP RED? Meaning, 1080p (Blu-Ray) or just DVD? Along with original audio as an option?

For TENEBRAE, will those few snippets/frames that were missing be reinstated back into the film? The Sazuma release had these separately.

If you do PHENOMENA, will it be the INTEGRAL HARD edition @ 116 min. or the 111 min. version?

Since all these Argento discs are forthcoming, I have to make my formal request again for Dario commentaries in his native Italian language with translated English subtitles so we can follow along. This should not be too difficult to accomplish. Set the trend for future foreign releases.

Actually it is very difficult to accomplish.

Dario charges a lot for his time. If you want him to sit down and do audio commentaries you're all going to have to have a serious rummage around.

So "no" is the answer to that: no Dario commentaries forthcoming.

I can't help with the other questions: maybe one for Almar...

I must admit it'll be hard for me to justify Inferno or Deep Red on BD if they're cut as I already have the uncut DVD's. I imagine the HD master will probably be used for eventual BU releases. Here's hoping! Tenebre i might have to get even if it's incomplete because who knows when another BD release will happen. I say bring them all on, haha!

Wow, Tenebrae and Deep Red sound like they're going to be loaded editions.

I wasn't aware the BBFC had the power to alter and extend the law. However, if challenged in a Court of law, the Court would either have to rule that under present legislation it's not actually illegal for such scenes to be present in a video for private consumption (as the Cinematograph Act only, technically, covers films for public exhibition) or, and this is highly likely, the Judge will set a precedent in law that would make it illegal. This would then enter the statute books and, unless amended by Parliament itself, would stand as the legal ruling on the issue of animal cruelty in films for private consumption.

However, this is a moot point - no-one's ever going to challenge it and so the BBFC continue on with their 'policy'. Now let's be clear here, a policy is exactly that, it's not a legal ruling. It's simply how they've decided to interpret and implement the law. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand their position and I understand them erring on the side of caution - but, and this is a very big but, I think the BBFC should use different determining factors. I don't think cutting old films does anything and doesn't send a message to anyone - I think in this day and age most filmmakers no longer employ such shock tactics. What I'm trying to say is that cutting an old film of a couple of horse trips (or a cat eating a mouse) has no impact on future films. It's not going to prevent what's already happened. Now if this was a new film - then yes, cut it, if for no other reason than to send a message to the filmmaker that it's unacceptable; that would affect the present and the future. Cutting films in retrospect seems a bit daft, though IMO.

Wow, this is great to hear on a Monday morning! The day doesn't feel as painful now!

About time Argento was shown the proper appreciation on UK DVD (and hopefully Blu!)

The BBFC have the power to alter and extend their polices. Perhaps they should in the case of this one, as it would then definitely settle all arguments about it.

It would also probably result in these cuts being tightened up even further.
