Exactly -- he re-edited the film rather than cutting out a small scene which, no matter how it affects the narrative (i.e. not great actors been set), is still a pretty pointless cut which I would take over re-editing the film any day.

As has been said, times have changed and the BBFC have improved markedly, but the classification system in this country is still far from perfect.

Here's the full INFERNO listing:

THIS AMAZING 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION CONTAINS:

- Reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned art work

- Double-sided fold out Poster

- Collector’s Booklet featuring brand new writing on Inferno by Alan Jones, author of Profondo Argento

- High Definition Presentation of the film (1080p)

- Optional 7.1 DTS-HD/2.0 Stereo Audio

SPECIAL FEATURES:

- Introduction to Inferno by star Daria Nicolodi

- Dario's Inferno (16 mins interview with Dario Argento)

- Acting in Hot Water: An Interview with Daria Nicolodi (18 mins interview)

- The Other Mother: Making the Black Cat (16 mins) In 1989 director Luigi Cozzi (a long time friend and collaborator of Dario Argento) decided to make the unofficial follow-up to Inferno and 'complete' the Three Mothers legacy. This feature looks at the torrid history of The Black Cat, with plenty of clips too!

- Dario Argento: An Eye for Horror (57 mins) Mark Kermode narrates this documentary on Argento’s career including interviews with George A. Romero and John Carpenter

- The Complete Dario Argento Trailer Gallery [18 films]

- Easter Egg (5 mins of Dario Argento in English, with random memories of Inferno)

How many of these extras will be in high definition? I'm hoping all of them!

Some thoughts I have after reading the nearly 10 pages of responses today (!!!)...

- You English blokes need to find out which government officials are film fans and lovers. Get them on your side, write them and get them to start addressing the inconsistency of the BBFC. That may be the best way to get them to admit to their archaic ways.

- How did SUSPIRIA get released in the UK uncut this time around while films like NY RIPPER and INFERNO are still getting cut? Isn't this a sure sign that the BBFC is inconsistent and therefore needing a re-evaluation of their purpose/goals/rules?

- Re: extras. Yes, extras still influence what I purchase -- which is why I cannot write off the Arrow blu-ray yet regardless of the cut film right now. But in reality, I just don't have the time to watch every extra on every dvd & blu-ray I purchase anymore. I never listen to commentaries any longer, usually only watch parts of docs and end up fast-forwarding thru many of the supplements. I just don't have the time as I get older -- work drains the LIFE out of me, so when I'm home I don't have as much time to poke around every extra. Doesn't mean I don't want the extras or that others shouldn't like them, but I'm fairly sure I'm not the only person in this conundrum of being a film freak. Or maybe I am...LOL, I don't know anymore -- my MI/DD clients are rubbing off on me.

The cinema cuts were waived over 10 years ago (during Ferman's reign incidentally). There's nothing in the film today for the BBFC to cut.

Calum, You'll have to start working on extras for the 35th Anniversary Edition once you have finished this!

The extras sound fantastic!

I'll email the BBFC about their cut to Inferno.

To me, it's not so much a cut to a cat eating mouse scene, it's more the fact that it's an 18 rated film that the BBFC have told people they cannot watch in its entirity - a film, which will be freely available to watch uncut in most ( if not all ) European countries. The BBFC have an important role to play. Cutting 18 rated movies is not one of them. It's a waste of time and they are insulting the intelligence of the people who watch them.
