I know the feeling.

For some strange reason JL keeps reminding me of early Chuck Norris outing An Eye For An Eye. Perhaps because old pro Christopher Lee stars in both films.

I think JL's attractive DVD cover may possibly hide a mediocre movie imo.

Superb!
Lee and Pleasance-excellent.
Can't go wrong with Mrs Ringo either though....

Can't beat some good action.

I agree with you both. I would and have bought horror films that I had never see nor heard of because of cool art. I however wouldn't buy any other genre of film because of the art unless it was a good film I had seen.

I also kind of liked the fact that "Arrow was bringing back the art of horror" as it felt that as a horror fan I was getting something exclusive, and was being rewarded for buying films which haven't been Blockbusters or commercially successfull.

Just my opinion though

Good call and this is most definitely the main reason i buy Arrow's horror output.

If the company goes to the same impressive lengths with any and all potential action releases then i'll be happy to buy these titles providing it's a film i enjoy.

But i have to admit based on what i remember about JL i just can't get excited about this movie coming out on DVD.

That said, if the above Joe Lewis actioner comes down in price sooner or later i may have a rethink and give JL a go. Only time will tell i guess.

Here's the press release:

THREE BOND VILLAINS, ONE BOND GIRL AND A MARTIAL ARTS LEGEND.

Directed by Academy Award winner and veteran director of numerous hit TV series, Ernest Pintoff, (Knots Landing; Hawaii Five-O; Kojak) and starring three former Bond villains (Christopher ‘Scaramanga’ Lee, Donald ‘Blofeld’ Pleasence and Joseph ‘Dr. No’ Wiseman), a former Bond girl (Barbara Bach) and legendary American kickboxer, karate fighter and martial artist Joe Lewis as the eponymous hero, Jaguar Lives! is a star-studded, action-packed, globe-hopping spy thriller that owes as much to the kung fu movies of the 1970s as it does to the spy novels of Ian Fleming and their movie adaptations.

Joe Lewis stars as Jonathan Cross, aka Jaguar, a recently retired secret agent who is persuaded to take on one last assignment. His mission: to smash a global drug cartel rumoured to involve the people believed to be responsible for the disappearance and possible murder of his former partner. Jaguar’s plans to infiltrate the international network of pushers and dealers running the cartel and ultimately eliminate the evil mastermind heading the operation bring him into contact with some of the world’s most powerful and dangerous criminal figures, including a crazed dictator-like General, a ruthless businesswoman with deadly connections and a villainous crime lord and his ninja bodyguards.

Co-starring John Huston (Chinatown; Casino Royale), Capucine (the Pink Panther movies) and Sally Faulkner (Prey; Vampyres) and packed with massive explosions, fast cars, exotic locations, beautiful women and Lewis’s trademark martial arts moves, Jaguar Lives! is a cult classic from the golden age of over-the-top action movies.

Jaguar Lives! will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Arrow Video on 6th September 2010. Special Features include: interview with star Joe Lewis; poster art and stills gallery; Joe Lewis and Bruce Lee gallery; original trailer; reversible sleeve art; 28-page booklet on Joe Lewis and Jaguar Lives! written by Andrew Staton and Anthony DeLongis.

Why do I get an image in my head of Arrown DVDs/BRs being presented on a tray of gold foil covered chocolates?

Now there was a fine beat-em-up on the finest home computer ever produced! I believe it was Gary Biasalo who programmed the game, created the graphics and also composed that wonderful soundtrack. Those were the halcyon days of computer games, eh?
