The BBFC don't cut the scene themselves. They only request the cut. It's up to the distributors editing department as to how it's carried out.

It's an awkward scene to cut as the Platinum release showed. A still image would be my choice as it would show why the girl had been slapped, though an optical blur would be a good second option. Up to the editing department really.

Either cut it or carefully zoom in on the image to take the lizard out of frame during the impalement. Fogging the lizard or pixellating it would look too jarring imho.

Yeah, they used this method for Realm of the Senses and it's not too bad.

Also used in The Great Rock n' Roll Swindle. Yeah a careful zoom would be an excellent option.

It's the equvalent of pan and scan, just move the focus so the pin can't be seen. If it can be done, that would be the least obvious and jarring solution.

Never considered a slow zoom... great idea.

This whole business is so sad. I remember another DVD company in the UK managed to advertise their release of I Spit On Your Grave as being "a fuller version". Why??? Reframing, rezooming and re-editing by the distributors.

Is someone really suggesting that Arrow should pull the same stunt and use "fuzziness" or even a still photo to replace this scene??? The only reason for even thinking along these lines would be so that Arrow could say "this flim is uncut for the first time!!!". Uncut ... yes! Uncensored ... no.

The chances are that you're not going to see anything of the scene anyway, so to have still photos or to obscure the image is just going to a pointless exercise.

Arrow won't advertise it as uncut if it's censored in anyway.

I would certainly hope not. To even consider doing so would show that Arrow wouldn't be any better than some of the other companies who have set out to make a quick profit over the years.

For a company who have spent so many years trying to establish themselves, it would be the business equivalent of suicide.

But what is being proposed on this thread almost verges on the madness. I bought DVDs with "digital censoring" and "still photos" (see the previously cut scenes on the old ABUK version of Last House On The Left for an example of what it would look like) over the years.

Honestly - I was disappointed with every one of them to the point that the first time they got a mainland Europe / US release - I jumped at them. Consider either approach to a version of Deep Red, and my position wouldn't change. I would be more likely to buy the version with the scene cut

And that's everyone's choice. Arrow will be trying to appease everyone but they know they can't. Some wouldn't buy it if the scene is removed, some would buy it if the scene was kept and altered. It's a no-win situation and Arrow will try to please the majority of fans. I'm sure we'll find out in time what they're going to do.
