To be fair, an R18 would seriously limit their distribution probably to the point of making a sizeable loss. Turning down an R18 is a bit of a no-brainer I would have thought. Not like anyone's probably going to casually buy Bare Behind Bars while looking for your usual R18 fare in the local porn shop.

Arrow did ask for the BBFC to pass it as an 18 because an R18 is commercial suicide for a film like this - it would only be available from licensed sex shops. Arrow always try and get films through uncut and there have been some notable successes but ther will be titles that won't make it and this is one of them.

Very nice, and classy, I might add.

Thanks for the info P-Mac.

That cover is ****ing terrible though, looks like something out of an aeroplane safety instruction manual.

Hopefully just a 'rough draft' - Not a Rick Melton (by the look of it), either.

Really?!

His Cinema Sewer stuff was fantastic, but I just don't like this one at all.

Guess there's always the flipside...

I quite like the retro cartoon look of that cover.

Not a film for me, and it is sad that it must be cut under such circumstances. The R18 Sex Shop Only ruling is a stupid and damaging one.

That a film could legally have been released uncut in the UK but cannot be due to ridiculous British attitude towards matters erotic and it's knock-on effect upon the market is depressing and angering.

Default Release info

Here's the full release info, synopsis and the new sleeve art.

I wrote the synopsis and there's a little tribute to one of the great video nasty taglines in there for nerdy cult lab members who enjoy that sort of thing (like I do...).

BARE BEHIND BARS

In a South American prison, life is cheap but sex is cheaper...

Filmed in South America, where life is cheap, Bare Behind Bars is a chicks-in-chains grindhouse explosion guaranteed to induce cinematic whiplash.

See sex crazed inmates come up against twisted lesbian prison guards in this camp expose of the steamy, seamy life behind the grim walls of an all women penitentiary. Beware the blond bombshell doctor, whose only desire to sate her mad lust by inflicting her affections on the vulnerable inmates and don’t cross the insane warden of the institution, who’s feathering her bed with the profits of a convict prostitution ring. Any prisoner who dares to cross her must face the worst kinds of sadistic tortures.

How long can the caged women of this hell hole endure such cruel and unusual punishment before they cut loose and stage a daring escape attempt?
