Default The Beyond – The Film Debate

What do you think about The Beyond? Is it Fulci's best film, an average offering from the 'Master of Splatter' or one that you don't care for at all?

Is this David Warbeck's finest hour and where does it stand in the pantheon of Catriona MacColl performances?

The Beyond is my favourite Fulci zombie film (just ahead of City of the Living Dead), and my second favourite zombie film of all time after Romero's original Night of the Living Dead.

It's crammed full of eerie suspense and over-the-top gore (it has a fantastic trademark latexy Fulci eyegouging scene too!)

Definitely one of Fulci's finest films.

I love the beginning and the ending of The Beyond but the rest in between I'm not that fussed about. There are some imaginative scenes though, most notably, the acid meltdown in the hospital morgue, Joe the plumber's demise, the tarantula attack and various zombie onslaughts.I much prefer Fulci's City of the Living Dead and Zombie Flesh Eaters, but I think The Beyond is a better film than House by the Cemetery.

For me, THE BEYOND is definitely Fulci's best horror film. As much as I love COTLD and ZFE (although its been a very long time since I watched the latter), THE BEYOND has the thickest atmosphere by far...That girl with white eyes creeps me out big time The Louisiana setting is brilliant. Its got everything I love about a horror movie!

The Beyond is Fulci's best movie, although I don't think it's his most entertaining or accessible. That would be ZFE.

The psycho-analysis the Aussie woman gives in the Video Nasties doc about morphing flesh is a bit of a bonkers view to me. Just bloomin enjoy it!

It is his best film. It's one of my top 3 films of all time. It's virtually a remake of Micheal Winner's The Sentinel though.

I'd heard so much about it over the years before I had seen it. When I finally watched I was underwhelmed.

After a few more views I began to appreciate it more. The atmosphere is excellent and there are some of Fulci's best images here. However, I think City is vastly superior on the whole.

I would prefer it if the robotic pipe cleaner spider sequence was cut out of the movie entirely. It's woeful.

The ending image is probably Fulci's best, though.

Set piece after glorious set piece, an awesome offering! Not sure I'd compare it to HBTC though as that is on another level, just wish 14th March would roll round so I can have a real Fulci-a-thon!!!
