His views in using this aspect ratio may have been valid with the lower resolution of vhs but in the this HD age, it's not on!

His Univision proposal is all well and good, as regards his theories on saving film etc when making movies plus bringing a universal standard into theatrical and home cinema aspect ratios.

What I can't fathom is his reasoning behind retrospectively cropping films made over 30 years ago that weren't filmed with the Unvision process in mind.

It's obviously an egotistical endeavour. There’s no other explanation!

Having a universal standard just sounds absolutely barmy to me. But you are right, his belief that this should also be applied to older movies is the real problem.

It's a similar situation to the one where the Kubrick estate insisted on fullscreen transfers for many of the late director's films because it was those that he oversaw in the days of VHS and LD.

You just get the impression that Storaro has invested a lot of time and energy into his concept and doesn't want it to die along with the formats he had in mind when he introduced it.

So glad I got mine in as soon as I saw the Arrow announcement. There was 9 available when I woke up.

There is also a seller with a few on eBay. £26 delivered, though.

This Storaro 2:1 ratio for Bird is certainly a puzzling one. Unfortunately, I can see this hurting sales.

I'm reluctantly fine with it as an alternate version since Arrow's hands were tied in regards to the aspect ratio and the restoration work which was done in Rome (as always). As said, they didn't have access to the 2.35:1 master that BU had so this is the only master available to them. It's either this 2:1 master or no release at all. That's how I read the situation.
