I think the Grindhouse Releasing disc is really good, definitely worth a watch,

I'm sure I saw mention of an Arrow release of Pieces on Emily Booth's Twitter feed aaaages ago which made me suspect it would happen at some point, could be wrong though. Nice to see that Arrow seem to looking into what the fans want, a very welcome approach to dvd releasing.

One thing's for sure: Pieces will look magnificent on the shelf - next to other curiosities like Island of Death and Silent Night, Deadly Night.

Greetings!

This is great news, shame there's no blu-ray though!

Love the cover, and it certainly looks to be a fantastic release, but I'm another who's disappointed by the lack of a Blu-Ray edition too.

Was it a materials issue, Nos?

That is indeed the case (Spectacular new hi-definition digital anamorphic widescreen transfer, as it states in the blurb). I'm guessing there must have been another R1 Pieces release, as the 'transferred from an old videotape print' someone mentioned earlier sounds nothing like the copy I have. It upscales really well in my blu-ray player too, I just dug it out after reading this news to check (I always remember it looking great, which was why I was so sure it would head to Blu ). The features were pretty solid too as I recall, the interview with the director was nearly an hour long, and quite in-depth.

I am interested in the Arrow features though, particularly to see High Rising's slightly unique, kitsch branded intros. As a genuine fan of the film, more new stuff will be hugely interesting. But it's not the definite instant purchase a Blu release would have been, it's more a bargain purchase, for me personally. Which may sound slightly harsh, I guess I just built up my expectations too high.

Can't wait to have this sitting on my shelf. Gotta say I love the new artwork, I think it let's everyone know they are in for one hell of a ride. Shame no BluRay, but if the materials not there this will do nicely. Remember at one time we were proud to show off a dark, muddy bootleg VHS of this to our friends. Ah, those were the days.
