Default Pieces – The Film Debate

If you've already seen Pieces, what do you think of the film? Also, when you receive the new Arrow Video DVD, let everyone know what you think.

ok...

On a TECHNICAL level, pieces is poorly made garbage.

As A cult film fan I love the movie, WHY? because its fun.

The no1 rule of genre filmmmakeing should be, make your film fun, because no matter how inept the filmmaking, if its entertaining a lot can be forgiven.

I thought Pieces was competently made, with decent direction, cinematography, editing and scored music. Intentionally or otherwise, it is funny because of the dialogue and the more ludicrous situations outlined in the screenplay

To use one example: A man dressed in black from head to foot carries a chainsaw into a lift and the young woman inside doesn't think anything of it, despite knowing a couple of other students had been hacked into pieces with a chainsaw!

yeah, Technically i didnt rate it, some poor continuity/acting/lighting/editing. But then I like films that are done a lot worse. (zombie creeping flesh/hell of the living dead as an example)

Honestly I dont think films need to be technical masterclasses to be good, I hate 90% of spielbergs movies and technically he's fantastic.

Arrived today

Despite not going to pick this up, I caved (it happens often). I look forward to seeing how it holds up to the US release. It's the extras I'm most interested in though. I'll be flipping that cover asap too

Have to say i love this film, partly because of it's absurdity and partly because it's just fun, illogical but fun. As already pointed out, the fact that someone can take a chainsaw into a small lift and the girl not notice/care, or the fact there's a waterbed room on campus right through to the Bruce Lee wanna be scene.

Although i have to look at what extra's this will have over the dvd copy i already have to see if its worth purchasing, shame there's no blu-ray release really. I do recommend this film to anyone who hasn't seen it however.

For me, Peices is one of the best 'switch your brain off and just enjoy the show' type of films EVER made. You couldn't make it up!

Ordered today so looking forward to it. I looked to see if there was a blu ray option but thinking about it, what's the point? DVD with upscale is going to make this look as good good as is technically possible. I do think with a lot of older / low budget features blu ray is overkill.

Finally got around to this the other night. I thought Arrow did a superb job on this classic. Brought it to work today to play for the customers, gotta spread word about great films like this and ARROW VIDEO here in the states.
The wife dozed off for a minute during it but woke up to the crazy Kung Fu, needles to say she was confused as hell and thought I put on a different film. HaHa. Can't wait to check out the special features.
