Default HMV exclusivity nonsensical

The HMV exclusivity deal is killing me. Walked into HMV today to pick up McBain and there were numerous copies on the shelf retailing for £9.99 - that is a whopping 43% above RRP of £6.99.

Now, there is not a chance that I am going to buy a DVD with that kind of mark up - as a general point of principal I will not usually purchase anything priced above RRP (unless I have vouchers to use, etc). By the time Amazon (for example) can send it out there may well be other discs that will consume my limited entertainment budget during the period of general release.

What is the story with with the HMV deal? - as a regular Arrow customer it is simply a pain and something I sincerely hope is not going to be widespread going forward.

I'm sure you do not want your customers leeched by HMV's prices - exclusivity effectively means they can charge what they want in the hope that the ultra loyal will buy early come what may.

I've got a funny feeling that I will be having the last laugh when HMV's prices are concerned...

The HMV exclusivity of McBain ends on 17th October, where it will then available from other retailers.

As for the price, HMV's in-store prices are typically very high. McBain can be currently ordered from HMV online for £5.99.

That's the problem buddy-who else is left on the high street?

I thought the RRP was £9.99? How are they ripping people off, if that's the price?!

I'm sure it is £6.99 - the Arrow website usually reflects the RRP for new releases and that shows the lower price.

Even the HMV website now has this for £5.99!

My issue is why Arrow would get into bed with HMV over exclusivity when every man and his dog know they charge excessive prices for products (IMHO!), and particularly niche products such as genre DVDs.

Like Reaper said, there's nobody left on the high street these days, so for those people who either dislike or are unable to order online, HMV may well be the only outlet for these type of films so it's in Arrows best interests as a business to offer them the exclusive on certain titles to grab the attention of Mr & Mrs Saturday Shopper, the majority of whom may not even know these beauties exist

says in here it's £9.99. The lower price was just an opener from Arrow on their site.
