I'm just a little confused. You have named the file "CULT LABS ZFE.jpg". You're not serious about making a ZFE cover looking like that are you?
Nah, this one is for a private customer in the States. It's Werewolf Woman in actual fact but I thought I'd paint the girl in normal first then 'fur' her up later. She's now boasting a snout, hairy hooters and huge slavering jaws! Glad to hear I finally managed to slap up a good one though!

I actually do like some! But not just because it's old. I like it if I think it's good artwork.

An example: I adore the old Intervision cover for Dawn Of The Dead - with the title Zombies. I have that on the wall of my living room. I actually didn't know the film was called Dawn Of The Dead for ages after I first saw it because of that release!

I probably wouldn't change round a cover to display this artwork on a DVD/BD though, even if it was available.

No one has the right to speak that way on this forum, sir. Zombie Flesh Eaters is holy to many and must be treated like the sweet baby Jesus.

the prob is we aint in the 1980's and if it wasnt for new artists being commisiond back then we wouldnt have the fond memories of the art work we have grown to hold dear from our youth

come on if we didn’t care about art work we wouldn’t be on here pitching in about it especially at 2:12 in the AM .
It’s fine if someone wants the original art man but its just not every one wants it all the time I cant imagine how many releases of maniac are out there with the same old school art work and that’s fine but give something else a chance and maybe in the future we will all hold the new stuff in the same esteem as we do the olds.
Personally I haven’t put any of the classic sleeves on display in my collection If I wanted to look at it this long I would have put the poster up years ago. And wouldn’t it be selling people short distributing a film with 30 year old art work as the only option however Iconic the image is ?

Okay, I'll put forth my argument for 'old' artwork, as people are calling it. I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd, the covers of their albums are iconic and directly linked to the Floyd 'brand', as it were. Every single Floyd fan on earth would go nuts if EMI/Harvest suddenly got some artist to design new, modern, cartoony sleevs for the albums. And rightly so. The artwork is part of the branding.

Personally, I'm not that bothered what's on the cover, but my argument, as outlined above, is why some people do. I do prefer original artwork/promo materials. If it's an 80's film it should have 80's artwork. It was made in the 80's, not 2012. And it's original artwork was part of the 'branding'. Once you change that, you're actually trying to rewrite history.

Well if you are going to start comparing apples to oranges, should every new edition of a book have the same cover it had when it was first published?

big time Floyd fan myself but lets face it they have had the sleeves changed by emi on more than one occasion. most of us didn’t even bat an eye lid. Didn’t change the fact they are great or take away from the enjoyment of the work they produced they were just variations to set them apart from past releases.
I wouldn’t like to see the 80's art work in the abyss but I want to see some thing new other than that Hand and honestly I don’t care if they just photo shop a 12" rubber dildo: in to its grasp. Just give it some originality
and please let it be something with some fg heart and not just another soleless montage of characters from the flick

Well, I was playing Devil's Advocate a bit with my post. As everyone knows, I much prefer to watch the films than look at the cover. I was just putting forth an argument that supports the use of original artwork. Personally, myself, I wouldn't care if the cover was blank with just the title - as long as the disc is acceptable, the cover is surplus to my needs.

(But, Arrow, don't take that as a gesture that you should start doing that, of course I'd rather have a picture on the cover )
