Ian McCulloch Audio Commentary I was just wondering if anyone knew if the Ian McCulloch commentary that was on the American Blue Underground release, was on the new Arrow release. |
Why? It's not a very good commentary and the moderator (a certain Mr Slater) lets McCulloch ramble on about everything except the bloody film you're watching. Very poor commentary IMO. |
its on the UK box of the banned dvd |
I wanted to know for these reasons three: 1. I've always been interested in commentaries in general 2. Interested in what McCulloch had to say about Zombie Flesh Eaters 3. I was slightly disappointed that the only other two Arrow DVD's I own (Terror at the Opera and Phenomena) were without commentaries :( |

I actually thought Ian had some good things to say on the commentary, pity I can't say the same about his companion who pretty much had nothing to say and was saying it too loudly. |

have read a lot of his film reviews in THE DARK SIDE mag and imo comes across as a smug git:crazy: |
As it has already been said, the commentary is boring and doesn't give much new information. I'm sure the audio commentaries on the Arrow Disc will be much more interesting. |
The only two words I have to say about Jay Slater are these: Silver Fox. Say no more. ;) To be fair to Jay he did try and encourage Vipco to include extras on their DVDs but Mike just wasn't interested. They did attempt it by including a MacColl commentary on their City of the Living Dead release, even if it did seem like she was doing the commentary from inside a broom cupboard as she didn't seem to have a clue about the film she was commenting on  But mj fave Slater moment is on the commentary to VCI's City of the Dead with Chris Lee and Jay mentions Cue Vaydiss. Lee pauses then says 'Oh, you mean Quo Vadis.' I fell off my chair laughing. Sorry Jay. :p |

some one in the darside mag asked allan bryce if slater was 'silver fox' and bryce replied that he's not saying if he is or not.... but i've never really liked slater and his opinions it was funny reading about bryce when he jokingly made him out a drunk:) |
Jay Slater was the Silver Fox. That's a fact. I've nothing personal against Jay at all, he's done nothing to me personally. However, I do find his critiques often far off the mark and his scribblings are more suited to the lad's mags he writes for than in a serious genre zine like Dark Side (or in Arrow booklets for that matter - where he thinks saying things likes 'tits' makes him look clever). And his tales of being at festivals really made me think he was trying a bit too hard to emulate the likes of Hunter S. Thompson et al with his adventures of drunken debauchery. I'd rather he talked about the films more than name-dropping and talking about what beverages he had consumed. It's easy to get wasted, it takes no effort at all, so none of that really impresses me, I'm afraid. Give any idiot a bottle of Jack Daniels and they'll get pissed, there's no real art to it. If his stories were actually funny that would be something, but they're not. |
i have read many reviews by Slater and naturally there are some i actually agree with but him saying something like 'watching VIDOCQ was like looking through candy wrappers'' or something VIDOCQ is brilliant and one of my all time fave fims and not the above description he has criticied other films/directors etc and most times i disagree with him he is a film critic and they are just guides a bit like all of us on this forum! but Slater comes across as an arrogant sod |
All true, but I must say I like Slater's 'Eaten Alive' any book that even mentions 'Porno Holocaust' with a straight face has to be worth a shot. |

I think Eaten Alive is a pretty solid book but I could never understand what the hell Gestapo's Last Orgy was doing in there ? |
Isn't that the one that has the nazis eating a jew fetus? If so, that's cannibalism... |
Yeah, that's why. Always wondered why EMANUELLE'S REVENGE wasn't included as it contains a scene in which George Eastman hallucinates a big cannibalistic feast. |

I seem to remember a 90's interview with McCulloch in Darkside mag and he had pretty much nothing to say about his three Italian films and was a bit bemused that these films were still being spoken about. It's been years since I 've seen it, but does he get to score with Alexdra delli Colli in Zombie Holocaust ? Lucky dude if he did - that girl had a sensational bod... |
