I wonder how many are going to come on and say 'It must have been pre-cut, surely?'

Daemonia 7th February 2013 11:29 AM

So that whole sexual violence study that was conducted for the BBFC was just a load of bollocks then? It must be, if they've passed this uncut complete with rape scenes including hardcore penetration shots within that context. They sometimes really baffle me. I mean, it's good that it's passed uncut, but it does make a mockery of their own ratings system. A bit of softcore fumbling that resembles an inept rape is cut from Tombs of the Blind of the Dead but hardcore explicitness in a rape scene in Baise Moi is perfectly okay...?

Quick, while the BBFC are obviously high at the moment resubmit I Spit On Your Grave, it'll fly through if Baise Moi can!

Am I alone in thinking that if Baise Moi wasn't a subtitled foreign film it wouldn't have been uncut?

No you are not. If this had been a Troma film it would have been a different story.....

Inconsistency has always been one of the BBFC's core policies

Nope, you're not alone. Obviously hardcore shots in a foreign langauge film are less dangerous than if the actors are speaking English. If they had been speaking our native tongue, this would be the most dangerous film ever and the BBFC would have hacked it to pieces. But since they speak French, it's all fine and jolly and obviously makes it all alright. Strange how only English language films are corrupting, but foreign films are completely harmless...

Hawkmonger 7th February 2013 12:24 PM

But don't you people see?! Those damn foreigners are so much more cultured than us?! Why, they make rape look almost erotic in comparison to Troma! How dare you compare such similarities you swine!

What a loud of :censored:

Stephen@Cult Labs 7th February 2013 12:27 PM

Wasn't expecting the BBFC to pass this uncut, even without their recent study. You just never know what they're going to do. I'm convinced it all depends on the mood of the examiners on any given day.

I didn't either, especially after they recently cut SCORE. They're so inconsistent it's insane.

Crimson Blade 7th February 2013 12:46 PM

Maybe Ichi The Killer would pass uncut now as well. It is also a foreign film after all.

Maybe, but the rape at the start is more violent so it could cause problems

Demdike@Cult Labs 7th February 2013 01:03 PM

Cut or uncut its still a terrible piece of artwork.

Makes the film look like a comic book shoot em' up on the lines of well, Shoot em' Up or Wanted.

A picture of some dog poo would be more accurate

Add French subs to it and it'll fly through!

Baise-Moi.

Rik 7th February 2013 01:25 PM

Thought so, I've only seen it once via Netflix and I wasn't overly impressed at all, I doubt seeing the full uncut version would make a difference.
It's up for pre-order at Amazon for £9 for those that are interested.

Baise-moi [DVD]: Amazon.co.uk: Film & TV

I've had the uncut dvd for years and only seen it once.

The BBFC has always rated films with class bias in mind, at least in unofficial terms. You would never get anyone who has worked for them to admit to that, but it is really quite apparent. The idea is that only middle-class types watch foreign language films, whilst the working class stick to English language films because they lack the intelligence, finesse and cultural leanings for such things has always been there.

Well I hate to challenge the stereotypical notion, but I'm working class, intelligent and culturally aware and assumptions like that annoy me.

I'm pretty pleased that Baise-Moi has been passed uncut though and will be ordering that one at some point.

And once was enough for me. Overhyped garbage that sells itself on shock value. And, yes, initially it is a bit shocking, but once you get past that you discover that the film has no substance, no heart, no real tangible philosophy - except that if you're abused it gives you cause to go and abuse others. Nihilistic and pointless. It's purely been made to shock and appall and serves no other purpose as far as I can see. Now, ordinarly I'd say that that's not always a bad thing, but this has just been made for cheap shocks IMO.

Just my personal opinion, mind. I know that some people appreciate the film, I'm just not one of them.

Sue me, I like rampage films, surprised that they've passed this though, as it totally negates all their recent decisions imo (Srpski, THCII etc).:)

But Score was passed uncut (R18) it was the distributor that wanted a lower rating hence the cuts for the 18.

Baise Moi contained nothing illegal or harmful and neither was it a sex work, so the 18 was fine.

Well if that was the case they wouldn’t have cut it in the first place.

It's still banned in Australia!

"BAISE MOI (2000) was banned again by the Aussie Censorship Board on the 12th of August. It's not known which version was submitted. Given a PAL running time of 74 mins, it could have been the censored UK version, or the uncensored UK DVD released this year by Arrow.

2001: R 18+ (uncensored 35mm cinema release)
2002: Banned (via attorney general-requested review)
2003: Banned (seizure of VHS and VCD copies)
2013: Banned (ostensibly for DVD)

The recent ban has occurred ahead of a planned broadcast on pay-TV. More than likely this broadcast will not go ahead. On 2nd of February 2013, the UK BBFC passed BAISE MOI uncensored (10 secs of cuts restored) with an 18 rating for cult movie distributor Arrow."

Girlfriends off on a girls night out I was going to have a few beers and watch some films I was going to start with this. She saw it said it's rubbish but I have to watch it. Is it that bad?

I hated it. It looks rotten - very ugly digital photography and all scenes are shot in low-light locations which results in lots of artifacts and digital noise. I spent most of the film trying to decipher what's going on. Perhaps that's why the BBFC passed it uncut - they probably assumed the filmmakers already pixellated the film.

Nordicdusk 24th January 2015 08:44 PM

Just finished watching. What a load of rubbish a pointless film adding sexual penetration for shock value and to cover up a really bad story. I'm sad this is even in my collection.

Make Them Die Slowly 24th January 2015 08:50 PM

It could have been great it if was nastier and more exploitative.
