Blog 50 - Dracula Vs Frankstein

Al Adamson should win a posthumous Oscar for services to the trashy drive-in movie! Whether it be cheap Kung Fu knock offs, scummy biker flicks or this ghost-train wreck of a movie, his films may have been terrible, but they were never dull.

Cobbled together from other unfinished projects, Dracula Vs Frankenstein has it all, Mad scientists hiding out in fair ground attractions, deranged hunched back assistants (Lon Chaney Jr in a tragic final role), Las Vegas lounge acts, an Afro sported vampire with a laser emitting ring on his finger, plenty unconvincing but vicious bloodletting in the HG Lewis style and more unintentionally funny dialogue than you could hope for.

The vague plot sees Judith searching for her sister among the hippies of Venice Beach. It turns out that she has fallen foul of Grotan, the mad doctors deformed sidekick. The crazed scientist is the last of the Frankensteins and he runs a sideshow as a cover for experiments on his assistants victims.

As luck would have it, Dracula decided to pay him a visit and the blood crazed count shows the Doctor where the remains of the original monster are buried. Soon the evil pair have resurrected the long dead fiend, allowing the doctor to use the beast to exact awful revenge on his rivals. The whole film barely holds together, but B-movie fans will be in trash film heaven with this brilliantly flawed non-classic!
