I recently began running in an effort to lose weight, my first step in my journey back to being a wrestler again.
Running is a hellish exercise, but one that works. You never see overweight people running though. Have you ever seen one? I think it’s because it is such a public thing, like an announcement that you are trying to lose weight. You never see adverts for diet supplements featuring overweight people saying ‘I’m taking this and its working’. They just show the finished product. But running really does work, and that’s why I am doing it. It was hellish running through town today, with everyone viewing me blow up and be unable to breath after about 100 yards.
Luckily, I have been in this position before. I was 210 pounds and lost 70 pounds in 5 months (seriously). My body responds to what I do with it, which also means it puts on weight just as easily, hence today. Getting the first run out of the way is one of the hardest things. They say if you do something once, you can easily do it again. I disagree with this- I say if you can to it twice, you can do it again easily, since the first time may have been worse than you expected. The second time, you are getting on with it knowing what it’s like.
The next step will be to look at my diet.

Running works well, just watch out for your knees! Pounding pavements several times a week can take its toll.

What kind of diet changes will you be making? I find the best thing is to have a very predictable plan for what to eat each day; if you mostly eat the same meals over and over it may be a little unexciting but I think it gives you a real idea of whether what you're eating is balanced or not.
