Wild Beasts ( 1983 )

dir: Franco E Prosperi

Cast:

Lorraine De Selle
John Aldrich
Ugo Bologna

Animals escape from the zoo and go on the rampage in a unnamed european city ( actually Frankfurt ) after drinking contaminated water. We see people attacked by rats, a woman having her head crushed by an elephant, a cheetah vs Volkswagen chase, schoolteachers eaten by polar bears and much more.

Wild Beasts is a fun film for the most part, the animal attacks are qiute good and there is plenty of gore plus a capatin Manwaring lookalike in Ugo Bologna. . The only problem is that the film contains some nasty cruelty to animals ( hardly surprising considering who was behind the camera ) including rats being set on fire with some being stamped to death and poor defenseless cows and pigs being attacked by tigers ( reasons it will never get an uncut uk release ). If you ignore these scenes you will find the film fun on a trash level plus it stars Lorraine De Selle which is more than enough reccomendation.

This is one I still need to check out too! If only for the Cheetah car chase! I'm shocked that it hasn't recieved a DVD release from some small European company yet either!! After the success BU had with the Mondo films a few years back. Maybe its swamped in legal issues?
