I am going to zip through this period of the late 1960s as there were few changes until 1970.

It was '67-'68 when I became a junior schoolboy and we had a pretty new young teacher called Miss Griffiths. She was obviously too pretty because she soon became mrs. something-or-other and had to leave to have a baby but for now she was our Miss Griffiths. She took us on a trip to the City Museum at Weston Park, near the Sheffield University Arts Tower and the Henderson's Relish Factory (the true lifeblood of Sheffield). This was where I got a fascination for "old stuff" and the duck-billed platypus (after holding a stuffed one).

In '68-'69 we were taught by Mrs Harrison again and I started with the "bee hive factory and headteacher" nightmare again and would often wake up screaming and sweating. Four very memorable things happened in '69; my grandparents emigrated to Australia but returned because of my Grandmother's homesickness and extreme dislike of small things that want to kill people, THE most remarkable feat of mankind, the first Moon Landing, Woolley Wood Primary School becoming an Infant school and all us Juniors being sent down the road to Beck Road Middle School, and meeting Rosalind Ashton. Rosalind Ashton was a bright and beautiful red head with elfin features. I had never seen anything like her and was struck stupidly dumb in her presence. Oh, yeah one other thing did happen, I got a mutant tooth in the roof of my mouth and had it removed. This last came back to haunt me when My little girl, Katherine, got the same thing.

Then we moved again in the winter of 1970, just to the other side of Woolley Woods, from Shiregreen to Wincobank! I promised, sadly, that I would not forget my friends. I was 10 years old. 10 year old boys are sometimes very lonely and heartbroken.
