Exterminators of the Year 3000 ( Guliano Carnimeo aka Jules Harrison, 1983 )
Its the year 3000 and the earth has become a desolate wasteland. The seas and rivers have all dried up and humanity is on the brink of extinction. An underground settlement knows the whereabouts of an underground spring that contains enough water to save the human race. But in order to reach it they must travel across dangerous territory contorolled by ' Crazy Bull' a sadistic barbarian who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. After a convoy from the settlement comes under attack from CB the only survivior is Tommy ( Robin Askwith lookalike Luca Venatini son of actor Venatino Venatini from Cannibal Apocalypse and City of the Living Dead ) Who is captured by CB. After tommy refuses to give away information about the water. CB ties a rope attached to a motor bike to Tommys arm and has it pulled off! (fortunately he has a bionic arm) A warrior named Alien comes to Tommy's rescue and the two set off to find the water and save humanity.
Exterminators of the Year 3000 is entertaining though unremarkable addtion to the genre. Director Guiliano Carnimeo (credited as Jules Harrison) manages to stage some decent action scenes among the desert landscapes of Almeria but is let down by a weak script (One character calls everyone mother grabbers!) and aside from Luca Venatini and exploitation regular Luciano Piggozi (aka Alan Collins) a poor cast.
Maybe I'm being unfair. After all this movie was rushed into production to capitalise on the success of movies like Mad Max and Escape from New York and had nowhere near the quality of actors and budgets of their models (although the budgets on those movies wasn't the biggest). A good script was secondary, action and violence come first. Did it matter if cast couldn't act? Of course not! what mattered was getting the films out in time to capitalise on the current trend for post apocalypse movies. But Exterminators is not the best film in the genre. Its entertainig enough and worth checking out but you are better of getting one of the better rip offs likeAfter the Fall of New York, Bronx Warriors 2 and Bruno Mattei's genre crossover Rats Night of Terror.
DVD;
I could be wrong but EOTY3000 has yet to receive a dvd release.
