I agree the likeness is great, this version is pretty much the same in design but just doesn't have the same level of intensity even though it is a nice drawing too.

I guess it's like comparing the new remake to the original film.
The cover remake just seems to look like a normal teenager whilst the original looks like a pissed off geek on the warpath.

Some inspiring, engrossing covers that are so much more appealing than many sanitised covers today. But as already shown in this thread there are exceptions to the rule and a lot down to individual taste

Those Guy N Smith covers are the reason why I borrowed his books from my local library as a kid, same goes for the Shaun Hutson covers from the same series as Erebus:

I was just looking at those covers online too.
Here are a few more oldies i had, same as before i'm just a sucker for an interesting, creepy or nasty illustration.

Pretty sure that's Telly Savalas with the axe on the first one.

Love that Keep cover

If you like these types of covers I really recommend paperbacks from hell. It shows the cover of each book and synopsis. Good read.

I've just bought Pet Sematary today actually, never read it before, the cover posted up there is the 90s edition which matches all of my other Stephen King Books as you can usually buy them for a penny plus postage on amazon but I bought this one new...

I don't mind the cover, it's just annoying it wont match the others.

It’s a toss up between Pet Sematary, Salem’s Lot and the Stand for my favourite King novel, Pet Sematary was the first I read of his back in 1990 when all my other 11 year old classmates were reading Famous Five etc at school

Nice one Rik, I remember my first paperback, which was an adult read that I read and completed was James Herbert The Rats. I was supposed to have been in school but was sitting in the pub at lunchtime with Father and his mates. Being quite up the corner and remember clearly turning the last page and feeling quite pleased with myself.
This was the cover.

Can anyone else remember their first completed 'adult ' paperback?

Mine was this edition of The Hellbound Heart, I was probably around 12 or 13 and I borrowed it from the library against the wishes of the librarian. I insisted that I was ready for it. I’m not sure that I was haha.
