Probably 'Carrie' as i remember watching it on T.V with my mum and brother and the end freaking me out.

Must have been around 9 years old or so, my mum left my Dad when i was 10 so had to be prior to that.

Naked girls and horror are a potent mix to a young kid.

Remember reading the book soon after, i used to spend a lot of time mooching about the local library and remember getting horror and Dr Who books out and picking up stuff from jumble sales and the like.

That would have put me off books for life. I read it last year for the first time and I found it very tough to finish the entire trilogy.
The Hobbit on the other hand is pretty much a masterpiece.

Two great reads Carrie and Hellbound Heart, and aint if funny how the powers that be try and stop kids reading this stuff 'to protect them' yet I have devoured horror, sci - fi and fantasy all my life, usually stuff way beyond my years but have always felt more learned and aware of dangers than other kids who lived in 'a bubble'. This stuff is liberating!!

I remember my old man drinking in a pub called the gardeners rest, in this pub was a guy who worked at the local mortuary, my Dad told him in jest about my weird likes and loves of anything macabre and he told him he had a coffin going for free, an old wooden a shipping coffin, that an English woman had been shipped back in from Africa where she had been killed in the orange fields, a spider I believe. My Dad snapped it up and when my mother came back from shopping one day there was a coffin leaning up against the back door! She nearly made use of it!

I was over the moon, got it in my bedroom, stood it up and put shelves in it and stored all my horror VHS in it. My mates at the time thought it was ultra cool or I never saw them again

Quite lucky I suppose to have parents that just let me get on with my passion of horror.

It was after I read Prisoner of Azkaban and I was wanting more fantasy. Mind you this was when I was 8.
