It's a good book that one, was that his first or second one? I remember the first one being the better of the two because he talks about growing up in London with Jason Isaacs and going to the cinema every weekend and how he got a job writing reviews for Time Out and they always gave him the really crappy films to review

No, I'm thinking of this one;

But the one you've bought is good as well

I used to, but then he was doing a book tour for that first book, and I went to see it out of curiosity and he completely changed my mind and I came away a fan. I pretty much always agree with his reviews as well.

Kermode has also been instrumental in getting a few cult/horror titles released. He's okay in my book.

Agreed. His books, documentaries and commentaries on films such as Blade Runner, The Night Configuration, The Wicker Man, The ExorcistThe Shawshank Redemption, Becket, Alien, The French Connection, and Lost in La Mancha are always very well researched and presented.

Most recently, his recent blog tribute to Bill Paxton was a lovely personal memoir on what can make certain films memorable.
