I was given a Frankie Boyle HB Work! Consume! Die! and since I gave him a spare Brooker pb in return, I won't put this in me 'gifting' thread Ahem. It's his 'angry' book ... with some tour material padding it out

A heads up as i know Game of Thrones has a lot of fans. from a Waterstones email We are privileged to present the incredibly rare opportunity for our customers to purchase George R.R. Martin’s new epic volume Fire and Blood, signed by the author himself. Set three centuries before the climactic events of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood is the first of two essential volumes charting the Targaryen dynasty, as told by Archmaester Gyldayn. Stunningly illustrated throughout, this is a fantasy history like no other and an essential key to the chronicle of A Game of Thrones. Our signed copies will be available to pre-order on Wednesday 10 October at 11am, but please note our stock is strictly limited - do not miss out on this unique chance every George R.R. Martin fan dreams of. Fire and Blood is published on Tuesday 20 November. |

The long suffering Mrs. troggi and I were discussing cavemen at the bus stop the other day, she's been reading a selection of short stories called "The First Prehistoric Serial Killer" and wanted to know if cavemen would have had names like "Athelstan" and the like. I said that, as "Broca's Area" (part of the brain that seems to be for the understanding of language) was present in Homo Erectus, it would follow that "cavemen" would have had pretty complex names that coul compare with the ones she had been reading. We then realised, almost simultaneously, that another occupant of the bus stop was reading a book called "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" by Yuval Noah Harari! By the time I'd gotten to my seat I was ordering it from Amazon!
