When I was 8 I really liked The Hobbit but I haven't read it since. My dad always used to give me books on true murder and Viz and Zit to read on holiday. I liked the Berenstain Bears a lot. Enid Blyton, the Children's abridged classics of Treasure Island and the like. Roald Dahl which reminds of argument had on the way into town with friends as a teen. They were arguing over whether Roald Dahl was dead or not, they ended up asking a passer by, is Roald Dahl dead? He responded with "sorry, I don't live around here" Room 13 - Robert Swindells and the Point Horror. I also always liked those cheap Unexplained type books but one left me living in fear of spontaneous human combustion.

The Alfred Hitchcock And The Three Investigators series were a big favourite of mine. There were some classic titles/ covers that I can still remember today, such as The Mystery Of The Flaming Footprints and The Secret Of The Crooked Cat.

I used to be obsessed with those SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK books. Heck, I still love them. The artwork was sheer nightmare fuel. I kept those checked out of the local library constantly. I'm surprised any of the other kids in my hometown ever got to read 'em. heh |

I've already got this but in a collected book called Mysteries of the Unknown, with the other Usborne kids books in this series, Monsters and U.F.O's. Don't think i actually owned them as a kid but i used to borrow them a lot from a thing called a Library.
