When I was 8 I really liked The Hobbit but I haven't read it since.

My dad always used to give me books on true murder and Viz and Zit to read on holiday.

I liked the Berenstain Bears a lot. Enid Blyton, the Children's abridged classics of Treasure Island and the like. Roald Dahl which reminds of argument had on the way into town with friends as a teen. They were arguing over whether Roald Dahl was dead or not, they ended up asking a passer by, is Roald Dahl dead? He responded with "sorry, I don't live around here"

Room 13 - Robert Swindells and the Point Horror. I also always liked those cheap Unexplained type books but one left me living in fear of spontaneous human combustion.

The Alfred Hitchcock And The Three Investigators series were a big favourite of mine. There were some classic titles/ covers that I can still remember today, such as The Mystery Of The Flaming Footprints and The Secret Of The Crooked Cat.

I used to be obsessed with those SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK books. Heck, I still love them. The artwork was sheer nightmare fuel.

I kept those checked out of the local library constantly. I'm surprised any of the other kids in my hometown ever got to read 'em. heh

I've already got this but in a collected book called Mysteries of the Unknown, with the other Usborne kids books in this series, Monsters and U.F.O's.

Don't think i actually owned them as a kid but i used to borrow them a lot from a thing called a Library.
