Short stories

Here are twenty terrifying horror stories wrapped up in two sentences or less.

1. I woke up to hear knocking on glass. At first, I thought it was the window until I heard it come from the mirror again.

2. The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 12:07 before she pushed her long rotting nails through my chest, her other hand muffling my screams. I sat bolt upright, relieved it was only a dream, but as I saw my alarm clock read 12:06, I heard my closet door creak open.

3. Growing up with cats and dogs. I got used to the sounds of scratching at my door while I slept. Now that I live alone, it is much more unsettling.

4. In all of the time that I've lived alone in this house. I swear to God I've closed more doors than I've opened.

5. A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said "I heard that, too."

6. She asked why I was breathing so heavily. I wasn't.

7. My wife woke me up last night to tell me there was an intruder in our house. She was murdered by an intruder 2 years ago.

8. I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor crackling with a voice comforting my firstborn child. As I adjusted to a new position, my arm brushed against my wife, sleeping next to me.

9. I always thought my cat had a staring problem - she always seemed fixated on my face. Until one day, when I realized that she was always looking just behind me.

10. There's nothing like the laughter of a baby. Unless it's 1 a.m. and you're home alone.

11. I was having a pleasant dream when what sounded like hammering woke me. After that, I could barely hear the muffled sound of dirt covering the coffin over my own screams.

12."I can't sleep," she whispered, crawling into bed with me. I woke up cold, clutching the dress she was buried in.

13. I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me. °Daddy. Check for monsters under my bed." I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering. "Daddy, there's somebody on my bed."

14. You get home, tired after a long day's work and ready for a relaxing night alone. You reach for the light switch, but another hand is already there.

15. I can't move, breathe, speak or hear and it's so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely. I would have been cremated instead.

16. She went upstairs to check on her sleeping toddler. The window was open and the bed was empty.

17. I never go to sleep. But I keep waking up.

18. My daughter won't stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn't help.

19. After working a hard day, I came home to see my girlfriend cradling our child. I didn't know which was more frightening, seeing my dead girlfriend and stillborn child, or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.

20. There was a picture in my phone of me sleeping. I live alone.

Referring to No3, I was reading in bed one night when I heard scratching at my bedroom door. This would have been a while after my cat died (though no any kind of anniversary haha).
What do I do?
I get up and open the door, to hear the sound of another neighbourhood cat leap out of my window. And this is after years of screaming at tools in horror films "don't go in there!!" etc

Thw creepiest things you can whisper in someones ear when you are giving them a hug. Go on - try it with your loved one tonight!
  1. Long sniff - "Mmmmm....you smell different when you're awake."
  2. "You have lovely skin, I can't wait to try it on."
  3. "Soon."
  4. "Please help me" then smile as if nothing happened.
  5. "The Lannisters send their regards."
  6. "The slow blade penetrates the shield..."

  19. "Mother told me it would be like this."

Here are some more:

2. The doctors told the amputee he might experience a phantom limb from time to time. Nobody prepared him for the moments though, when he felt cold fingers brush across his phantom hand.

3. I can’t move, breathe, speak or hear and it’s so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely, I would have been cremated instead.

4. Don’t be scared of the monsters, just look for them. Look to your left, to your right, under your bed, behind your dresser, in your closet but never look up, she hates being seen.

5. They celebrated the first successful cryogenic freezing. He had no way of letting them know he was still conscious.

6 She wondered why she was casting two shadows. Afterall, there was only a single lightbulb.

7. It sat on my shelf, with thoughtless porcelain eyes and the prettiest pink doll dress I could find. Why did she have to be born still?

8. The grinning face stared at me from the darkness beyond my bedroom window. I live on the 14th floor.

9. I just saw my reflection blink.

10. Working the night shift alone tonight. There is a face in the cellar staring at the security camera.

11. They delivered the mannequins in bubble wrap. From the main room I begin to hear popping.

24. The longer I wore it the more it grew on me. She had such pretty skin.

25. You hear the scream across the hallway, but your eyes won’t open and you can’t move.

26. Being the first to respond to a fatal car accident is always the most traumatic thing I see as a police officer. But today, when the crushed body of the little dead child boy strapped in his car seat opened his eyes and giggled at me when I tried to peel him out of the wreckage, I immediately knew that today would be my last day on the force.

27. I looked out my window. The stars had gone away.

28. I always thought my cat had a staring problem, she always seemed fixated on my face. Until one day, when I realized that she was always looking just behind me.

29. The pairs of emaciated eyes outnumber the single round in my gun. With pleading tears falling on her doll’s hair, I point the barrel at my last surviving daughter"

A few more...

1 - "The operation wasn't successful in the traditional sense since my sight didn't return, but it left me with the ability to distinguish heat signatures, at least. Three weeks have passed and I'm still not sure how to politely ask my best friend why he's room temperature."

2 - "My sister says that mommy killed her. Mommy says that I don't have a sister."

3 - "You know that weird, full-body twitch you get sometimes when you're falling asleep? If there was a camera pointed at you, and you saw what it captured at that moment, you'd never sleep again."

4 - 'You stupid bastard!' I cried as he tied me to the rails, 'Don't you know this line has been abandoned for years?!' 'Of course I know,' he said, walking away, 'No one comes here at all.'

5 - "They say practicing smiling in front of a mirror makes you feel happier. I wish my reflection would join along."

6 - "It's been watching me for hours now... Sometimes I catch glimpses of its reflection on the computer screen, but I dare not turn around..."
