Fave opening lines of books So what are your favourite opening lines to any books (fiction or non-fiction doesn't matter). One of my faves is from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold." |
"It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York." Sylvia Plath: The Bell Jar (1963) https://pictures.abebooks.com/VERITY...9717701327.jpg |
"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." George Orwell, 1984 (1949) |

"Later, as he sat on the balcony eating the dog, Dr Robert Laing reflected on the unusual events that had taken place within this huge apartment building during the past 3 months" JG Ballard 'High-Rise'. |
