KPWNINJA 9th January 2009 04:06 PM

Has anyone else read Agitator: The Cinema of Takashi Miike? I received it this christmas and the book is fantastic! :D

It's just a shame that the book only covers so many of his films...

Gigantor 9th January 2009 11:50 PM

I have all three too & agree they are essential purchases. It's been over two years now since the last volume & there's been a stack of cracking releases which would fill several more books. Are you listening FAB Press !:)

mark meakin 11th January 2009 11:23 AM

Quick reply from Harvey Fenton at FAB PRESS:-
"Hi. there are no current plans for a fourth volume. Thanks for your enquiry,"
Harvey Fenton
FAB Press
Real shame that.

mark meakin 11th January 2009 03:01 PM

Harvey just sent me another email & said the poor (well disappointing) sales of DVD DELIRIUM Vol 3 are the only reason there's not been a fourth:(.I have all three so I recommend them all to people here.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th January 2009 03:38 PM

That's a shame Mark,I have all three, and to me,they're the DEFINITIVE DVD guides,no serious collector should be without them....

mark meakin 12th January 2009 12:54 PM

According to Marc Morris Vol 2 is now OOP & it's starting to appear on Amazonuk for between £60-100 !.Glad I have all three but it sounds like thats our lot !:(

I forgot I'd got that book Vin.Not a bad read though I'd also love the series on dvd.Though it would probably be a rights issue minefield !.

vincenzo 12th January 2009 10:12 PM

Ross (aka The Ego Has Landed) insists on including photos of himself with the likes of Russ Meyer & Herschell Gordon Lewis, and his supposed knowledge of films isn't quite as knowledgeable as he believes it to be. According to him the last Hammer Frankenstein was the 1973 Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed set in an asylum (actually Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell), The Wicker Man was made in 1976 (it was 1973), and Susan Sarandon played the deaf runaway in Psych-Out (it was Susan Strasberg). http://www.shameless-films.com/forum...ilies/ack2.gif

However apart from these glaring errors and ego-trips it's quite an enjoyable read and worth 50p of anyone's money (even Cloud's). http://www.shameless-films.com/forum...es/biggrin.gif

"Blood & Black Lace" is great as a reference book, good mini plot synopsis' for nearly every giallo/gialli you can think of without any spoilers, but the guide to availability is very outdated mainly detailing video availability and be careful with the pages as a few fell out at the front within a week of me buying it a couple of years ago, well worth but i would be reluctant to pay the full price on amazon though.

Pete 16th January 2009 01:41 PM

Thanks;) i may buy it now.

Mojo 16th January 2009 03:04 PM

DarkSide's Blood And Black Lace gets a huge thumbs up from me too. It's by far their best book imo and a great reference point for all thoise delicious Gialli yet to be released.

An updated ( hardback? ) version would be nice.

bedorca 18th January 2009 07:27 PM

Darksides Blood and Black Lace is a fabulous book and has lots of the Shameless titles in it!!

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 9th March 2009 08:48 PM

Recieved 'Seduction of the Gullible' from kind Mr. Postman today! It's a brilliant book - with the most indepth history of the video nasties I think I've ever seen. Yes, I do luv it! :p

vipco 12th March 2009 10:47 AM

Excellet read.

Anyone else read this.?

NossB 12th March 2009 10:50 AM

I just got it from Amazon mate - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seduction-Gu...6864215&sr=1-1 - only £12.99 or £10.99 on the marketplace. It's quite a good book - with an incredibly detailed 'timeline' which makes up the majority of the book.

Pete 12th March 2009 12:34 PM

Or just order it from Dark Side magazine. Iluv is it the updated version you just got?

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 12th March 2009 12:42 PM

Yeah Loops, I think I have got the most recent version (the one with the Knife in the Video on the cover). Is there much difference between other editions then?

Pete 12th March 2009 12:52 PM

I think the later edition has an updated dvd section or something.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 12th March 2009 01:00 PM

Yep that's right Loops, there's a detailed section at the end of the book talking about the DVD versions of the video nasties - cut / uncut etc. Quite useful - but it doesn't mention the Shameless release of Killer Nun - so obviously it's not the most up-to-date book.

Pete 12th March 2009 01:03 PM

The book came out either in late 06 or early 07 but i cant remember exactly.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 12th March 2009 01:06 PM

Also if you want to read more on video nasties, I strongly recommend 'The Video Naties: Freedom and Censorship in the Media' - it's a really interesting little book put together in 1984 consisting of 7 'essays' written at the time about the stupidity of the video nasties press panic.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 13th May 2009 06:26 PM

Hi there!

Has anyone ever read the EC Comic Archive books released by Gemstone? I'm thinking of getting one but which one?! So far it's between the Vault Of Horror or the Tales From The Crypt book. Any ideas?

Calum 17th May 2009 05:59 PM

You can always try some university libraries for Barker's book (my old one had it and that is how I managed to read it - although I finally located a battered old second hand copy out of sheer luck) or ask the man himself directly. He teaches at Aberystwyth University. It's a pretty good read - divided into individual chapters by those who opposed the Bright bill. Barker himself writes about seven or eight movies, running down the plot descriptions for those who have not seen them.

See No Evil is, as has been mentioned, probably the last word on the nasties though - hugely in depth and essential for any scholar on the subject.

In the mean time, any chance I can plug my own book Almar?

Reviews have been thankfully quite positive!

Shameless plug over. :D

Delirium 17th May 2009 08:08 PM

^ Nice going chap. I'll have to pick myself up a copy at some point.

Yes it's a good little book. I bought this when it first came out and still dip into it on occasions.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 16th July 2009 12:19 PM
