Default The Horror Film Reference Book Thread

The title says it all. Post here what you think are essential reads for the rest of us. I will start things off with a couple:-

1. The essential monster movie guide by Stephen Jones.

An encyclopedic volume of every (?) dracula, mummy, frankenstein and zombie film ever made. Some of the reviews are limited to cast and crew, but on the whole this an amazing volume and you will be looking through this for years to come.

2. Eaten alive by Jay Slater.

Featuring every Italian cannibal and zombie film made. Jay (along with some well known contributers) reviews each film in detail, giviing an unbiased view of its merit. Throw in an amazing notes section at the end and some cracking colour shots of various posters of the movies, it gives you more than your monies worth.

Book of the Dead - The Complete History of Zombie Cinema. This is a great book by Jamie Russell. It contains everything you need to know about Zombie films, all in really detailed descriptions. Lot's of great gory pictures too.

Look out for Michael Weldon's Psychohtronic Encyclopedia (Plexus) & Video Guide (Titan) for a wide coverage of really obscure horror & exploitation films...unfortunately both these publications are out of print.

Shock Festival tje essential guide to a whole host of grindhouse movies that do not exist! Brilliant though I think I've cheated.

Also love the Evil Dead Companion and Portable Grindhouse.

It's well out of date now, but Nightmare Movies by Kim Newman is a great read!
