Probably just passing really,Although who wouldn't travel to Lincolnshire to visit a bubblecar museum? At least there's no chance of losing a limb on one of the rides.

I should post here more than i do. Anyway, i've just started Miller jr's classic religious sci-fi novel A Canticle for Leibowitz. It's one of the few books i've read more than once. |

It's the beginnings of a new Catholic order following a nuclear war. An abbey is being built out in the desert where the monks think a shrine used to be. Except it soon becomes apparent to the reader but not the monks that the 'shrine' is an old military base and the items being found aren't actually religious relics. It's a fine story with a wicked humorous streak to it. As the story progresses we learn why the bombs went off in the first place and what it had to do with 'saint' Leibowitz. Quite a lot of the story has a lot to do with science and faith but it's also an allegory of western history and how technology overtook faith. There's a lot more to it as well but of course it's also very much about nuclear apocalypse. It must be over ten years since i last read it and i'm really enjoying it all over again. |
