No, but for me I also prefer reading it for a slower pace of the story. I felt that you were on such a build when reading but of course with the film it's just over so quickly. But I did enjoy the film as it was still entertaining.

Yeah, credit to the director for trying to film an unfilmable book like that and Christian Bale is awesome as always, especially during the Huey Lewis bit, always cracks me up when I watch it!

I wouldn't say it's unfilmable, I've seen worse than is portrayed in the book.

Yeah, now but at the time I don't think there was anything out there as outrageous as some stuff in the book, maybe they could make a version closer to the book since the advent of all the "torture porn" etc. films, but back then excessive gore would never have made it passed the MPAA or BBFC

There's loads of stuff that is really strong made before 2000, mainstream and underground. The book is way overhyped anyway as to levels of gore and violence. If Ellis hadn't have been the media's flavour of the month or serial killers the thing to make films about at the time, only a few people would have even heard of the book.

If you fancy something beautifully written and extremely challenging in serial killer fiction try 'Frisk' by Dennis Cooper.Frisk (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's very graphic in it's depiction of child abuse and murder so beware if you find stuff like that upsetting.

I do find child abuse stuff upsetting, I guess most parents do, but if it's necessary for the plot then I can cope with it and won't let it affect me too much

Mrs MTDS throw one of his books at me in disgust when she read a bit of it. I think it was 'Try', which is my favourite one by Cooper.

I think I'm in a minority of one as a parent who doesn't get upset by horrible things happening to kids in books and films. It's not real.

True, it's not like it was written by someone from the BBC
