Just finished The Drowned World (JG Ballard) Still can't get my head round books with "extra features" haha, gripping and self absorbed at the same time, this is indeed the template for everything that follows, luckily the verbiage gets less dense as his ouvre expands.....  The Drought next!!

The picture that comes up on tapatalk on the link for this thread is of a some Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks from the late 80's. I have no way of seeing who's post it was though. Anyone? Used to love those books.

I had a fair few of them as a kid. Remember our library had most of them but a lot of them had a not suitable for pre-adolescents thing stamped in the front. Then my parents started nosing through them as well and decided i wasn't allowed them anymore as they were the work of satan and i should pick educational books. I'll have to have a look around I'm sure I've still got one or two in the house. The artwork was fantastic. Rik likes this. |

They did a few other books too, I had the standalone novels and guidebooks as well, no idea what happened to them now. The main Library in Halifax has a few, which I borrowed for my son and he loved them too

I read To Kill a Mockingbird over the weekend, finishing it on Monday, which was the first time I had done so. It's a superb piece of Southern Gothic writing, which is brilliantly descriptive and very funny, something I wasn't expecting. I then watched the film, which I've seen half a dozen times, and was surprised that it is such a masterpiece when it really only includes about half the novel. I've just started reading Orange Is the New Black: My Time in a Women's Prison by Piper Kerman and am really enjoying it so far. Demdike@Cult Labs likes this.

Just finished Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Highly recommended.
