It's a joy to read ... if not joyous in content

Much like Try in fact.

I'm also going to throw this pulp thing (Maniac) that I picked up into the mix.

DJ Scribe!!
Ahem.

Having finished the Twin Peaks book I'm going to read a few Poe stories for the next few days leading up to Halloween, I'll probably enjoy The Raven at some point as well.

This reason why I ordered this: it is an issue entitled "Euro Horror Special" - most of you know by now that I have a soft spot for Jean Rollin and Paul Naschy (and, with slight reservations, also for Jess Franco).

What I discovered now that it has arrived:

a) It is the most recent (special) issue of Evilspeak (5.5 - October 2017).
b) Its front and back cover are a treat.

That looks lovely Prince.

Finished Try.
Now for a laugh this Hexus Volume One: The New Black.
Twas a Xmas present (15 ) and as I may get the second this year, thought I better get stuck in. Comes with a lovely 'bookmark' which is very Halloween (or Samhain) ...i.e. some 'kids' in 'costume' .... in what looks like a deserted hospital. How quaint... NOT

I'm now reading Jonathan Rigby's Euro Gothic from cover to cover.

I adored English Gothic this second time round (i originally read the paperback version over a decade ago), that may be because i own so many of the films discussed, yes even the creaky old 40's and 50's stuff - thanks Network - meaning i had more idea of what was being discussed. I probably own about 70% of the films mentioned. I even bought about ten whilst reading it.

Euro Gothic isn't quite as impressive because of a lack of familiarity with the films mentioned. I've just finished the silent era so many of the films aren't even available to buy.

However i love his prose style so it's an enjoyable read no matter.

In the spirit of Halloween,
Yesterday I read some Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Dead and The Pit and the Pendulum. Neither of these short stories have ANYTHING to do with the Corman/Price films of the same names

Today I read the absolutely fantastic HP Lovecraft story The Colour Out of Space.

The Horror at Red Hook on the way home from work

Mrs troggi bought me a beutifully bound volume of Poe with illustrations from Harry Clarke. I will treasure it forever. I first read Poe at about 10 years old in two small, illustrated volumes in the Children's Library, Firth Park, Sheffield. I would love to find those volumes again as they were a big influence on my life.

Poe for kids, who'da thunk it!
