I was going to post this in the What Are You Reading thread, but it might be better placed here.... This weekend I've been re-reading the excellent Bare Bones: Conversations on Terror with Stephen King, and inspired by that I posted something on my blog earlier today which might be of interest to King fans (and book collectors!)

The Salem's Lot releases differ.

For a proper release it should contain those in BOLD but I doubt it.

Broadcast on network TV in the United States to fill a 200 minutes time slot; later cut to 150 minutes. An alternate 112 minutes cable-TV cut was released theatrically in Europe and is available on video in the USA. The 112 minute version contains an altered scene of Cully Sawyer threatening Larry Crockett with a shotgun. Larry holds the shotgun barrel in his mouth, though in the mini-series he holds the barrel in front of his face. There is also an extended scene of Bill Norton impaled on antlers. Also, Salem's Lot: The Movie has some different music from the mini-series version.

DVD contains 183 minute version which is the complete mini-series.
The VHS 1987 version omits the scene where Ben and Mark are in Mexico, and a vampirized Susan is laying down on a cot in a hut. Then, Ben enters the room and impales her in the chest with a wooden stake.

Pet Sematary remake has found its Jud Crandall, the excellent John Lithgow.
Fred Gwynne was awesome in the original, but I reckon this is great casting news

John Lithgow Cast As Our New Jud Crandall in 'Pet Sematary' Re-Adaptation! - Bloody Disgusting

“Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, the writing/directing duo behind Starry Eyes, have been tasked with bringing Stephen King’s Pet Sematary back to the screen, and Jason Clarke (Winchester) is currently in talks to star as Louis Creed. More casting news comes courtesy of EW today, as the new Jud Crandall has been found.

John Lithgow will be playing the character Fred Gwynne brought to the screen back in 1989. Crandall is Creed’s kindly neighbor, who introduces him to the titular location.

In Pet Sematary, published in 1983 and re-adapted by Jeff Buhler…

“Louis Creed and his wife Rachel move their two children into a home and soon learn there is a creepy Pet Sematary near their property, where legend has it that animals buried there come back to life. It starts with their cat being run over, and brought back, and it gets much worse when the reanimation attempt turns to humans, who don’t come back exactly as they were before.”

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Steven Schneider are producing.

Paramount has dated the new adaptation for release on April 19, 2019.”

I watched a bd double bill of The Mangler and Graveyard Shift yesterday.
GS is the far better film, but TM isn't as bad as I remember-only the ludicrous finale let's it down!

I first saw GS in the ABC ( Canon) cinema Sauchiehall Street with my then girlfriend.
Not amused. Not exactly a chick flick!

Just ordered this from Music Magpie as part of their 2 for £5 offer.

I don't own any of them but have seen 1408 and Pet Sematary before.

Seemed like a good deal.
