I won't. I mispoke there. Should say something like this : Im not pro animal cruelty. Were the scenes never there, that'd be great.
But they were. Regardless of how Ruggero feels now, they were there on purpose.

I undestand why that was confusing. Hope that clears it up.

Just to clear it up as there seems to have been some confusion, if you purchase this release you'll be getting 2 versions of the film:

  1. The "BBFC approved" version with 14 seconds of cuts to the muskrat scene. To my knowledge, this has been re-edited (in a similar way to the NYR cuts) so it doesn't affect the running time of the film.
  2. Deodato's new cut which removes all sight of the animal cruelty, but keeps the fact that it happened.
Hope this clears it up.

Thanks for the clarification, Sarah. It'll be interesting to see how Deodato's new version looks and sounds compared to the (almost) uncut one.

As I said before, I've seen the new cut and the animal stuff was still pretty strong if you ask me!

Deodato stated when he introduced the film that the animal stuff was there on the insistence of his producers and distributors, because of the success of the then recent mondo films, and other cannibal films.

There's an interesting item in the news today about a documentary crew who spent time with a tribe in the jungle and totally fabricated stuff: TV show turned peaceful tribesmen into 'savages' | TV News Extra Blog - Yahoo! TV UK

Life mirroring fiction eh?

Can I ask with regards to the forced BBFC cuts can Shameless not get around them like Fox got around the forced Horse tripping cuts in the new Conan the Barbarian Blu-Ray.

And that is as its illegal in the UK for the horse tripping scenes if you select the English version you get them seemless branched removed from the movie.

But if you select the French language version they are seemless branched put back in so you get the full totally uncut version of the movie.

You would think the BBFC would need to classify all content of the disk but as I say Fox somehow got it through like this.

That's an interesting idea and one I've put to Shameless.

Cool

Bet the bbfc will not look kindly on companies(even big ones like Fox) sneaking in scenes that they DEMANDED were cut for British release, So imagine the probs for Shameless if they do the old "different language different version" menu trick...(old??) ha ha. Fox have the dosh to distribute thousands of the same disc all over Europe w/different slipcovers. Obviously the bbfc didn't sit thru each language choice on Conan comparing em.Though I think it's a great idea and cheaper just to release the same disc in different countries, it would make the idea of the bbfc even more pointless and I just can't see them allowing it on a regular basis. Suppose they could always have the uncut release as an Easter egg
