Who'd pay extra pennies for something like this?:eyebrows:

masdawg 14th April 2011 06:45 PM

I just about went and "liked" every single post in this thread
Yes, Yes and Yes from me!
I think both formats would be great - I'll defiinately be buying whatever is available - even if the both formats are seperate releases, this is already a definate pre order for me!

So many great options have been recommended already: soundtrack, comic book, statue, autographs, etc
I know we'll probably get the chance to discuss extras later - so i won't dwell on this too much: but I believe some history behind the film in this country is a must. Whether that be included as extras on the disc, or maybe as a booklet? It could have a foreward written by someone like Marc Morris / Jake West and could have copies of newspaper articles, etc on the film from back in the whole "Ban This Sick Filth" era, as well as a timeline of UK releases and BBFC cut statuses just to show how far the BBFC has come.
Anyway, enough of that for now - I'm sure we'll get the chance to discuss all the extras later :)

As for the packaging, just as many great ideas have already been mentioned - maybe if the idea goes ahead Shameless could narrow it down to a few suggestions and then could open it to a vote later?

I do think that the old Go video artwork is a must - at least on the limited editions. It's a big part of the history of the film in this country - the old Video Nasty cover and the one that helped cause so much controversy 30 years ago!
Also, while I'm at that point: I know it'll be about 31 years once this is released, but are there any plans to call it something like a "30th Anniversary Edition"? Has a nice sound to it I think

Djangooo 14th April 2011 06:48 PM

Pack it in with a condensed version of FAB Press' OOP Cannibal Holocaust maybe?

nekromantik 14th April 2011 06:56 PM

I still think digibook wud be awesome!
UKs first by shameless!

skankenstoned 14th April 2011 06:58 PM

How about throwing in a pack of limited edition Shameless Beef Jerky?!?!

bigandya 14th April 2011 08:27 PM

Please, please, please avoid yellow packaging for the limited edition.

Yello = giallo, fair enough. CH is not a giallo by any stretch of the imagination. Something nice and red perhaps, but yellow? Please, NO!! :tongue1:

That's fair enough, but for the "standard" release, it's got to be kept in the usual Shameless yellow cover/box imo.

Andra Jai 14th April 2011 08:45 PM

Personally I may be in the minority here but I don't like all the extra packaging as my ocd wants all my blu-ray cases lined up next to each other on the shelf looking the same.

I have dozens of slipcases and outer boxes for blu-rays collecting dust in a cupboard with just the actual hard cases on display.

obviously as long as the film comes in a regular Amaray case I'm happy but I wouldn't be bothered about special packaging of any sort.

I even have to go and re buy the Alien blu-rays to get rid of that God awful digi pack

Ah, a fellow detester of the digi pack.

Mbarr 14th April 2011 08:51 PM

With the notorious reputation it has & with the (near) uncut status whatever the packaging it NEEDS to have the image of the impaled woman on the cover (which I'm sure is original poster art anyway?)

Actually, I also agree with this point. The imapled woman is in a way the mascot for this movie. Maybe the GO Video artwork on one side and the impaled woman on the other? That'd suit me just fine :thumb:
Hopefully they'll be a poll for the covers in the near future!

bigandya 14th April 2011 09:42 PM

Maybe some novelty freebies?

A packet of Chocolate Animals to eat whilst watching the cruelty scenes?

A rubber spiked dildo key ring?

A 3D jigsaw puzzle - "Put the pieces of the turtle back together"

Totally agree Stephen.
I also think that the old GO! artwork is a must in some shape or form.
Even though this will end up slightly cut, this is (hopefully) a landmark decision as far as censorship goes and that artwork was ALWAYS featured in the tabloid rags when 'video nasties' were mentioned,so for me it has to be featured in some way.

The entrepeneurial Des Dolan of GO! video apparently used this image to print promotional beermats!

TwilightZoneTom@Cult Labs 14th April 2011 10:02 PM

I think seeing as there's already been a Shameless tin, for the sake of uniformity maybe a tin should be that shape? Perhaps thinner because it won't house three DVD cases, or the same and just fill it with stuff!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 15th April 2011 11:41 AM

I haven't read every post here, but I would love to own a limited edition Blu-ray that came in either a Steelcase or media book (or even a hardbox). Some exclusive additions to the set will be welcome such as art cards, a keyring, sticker or poster. Whether the box itself would have a number on or a certificate inside with a number (or even both) is something I'm not too fussed about, but it would be nice to have the number on the back or spine (or, again, both) of the case.

tailofthecomet 15th April 2011 02:05 PM

special ed cannibal holocaust

yes i'd buy it if it was preferably dual format, a steelbook would be nice, repro of original vhs cover, cinema posters press release, would be quite important in swaying me as would accompanying soundtrack cd, and finally, extensive notes interviews history etc

oaxaca 15th April 2011 03:28 PM

A numbered limited edit blu ray steely would be superb!

Sarah@Cult Labs 15th April 2011 05:44 PM

I've moved all the posts pertaining to the different versions of the film to this thread as Shameless would like this thread to be reserved for packaging suggestions.

It's just so they find it quicker and easier to peruse, sure you all understand!

cannibalchris 15th April 2011 09:02 PM

Something like the Battle Royale set would be awesome.

If this set is going to include the full version (minus the 14 seconds) and Deodato's brand new edit, that sounds a good idea. It would be great if Shameless could get some art cards, a poster and other related goodies, that would be very good.

Peter Neal 15th April 2011 09:54 PM

I would certainly be interested in an LE of "Cannibal Holocaust"- preferredly on DVD (as I'm still in no hurry to move to Blu just yet) OR as one of those neat "DVD/Blu" combos so I wouldn't "have to" pick up the flick yet again in an "all Blu" future:popcorn:

Demdike@Cult Labs 15th April 2011 10:15 PM

I would hope the edition released is about the size of the Bronx tin (if thats the way forward). Shelf space is at a premium.

nekromantik 15th April 2011 10:16 PM

nah Im against the BR set idea. As nice as the set was, the box was big!!

A movie like this with its longest ever version in the UK and a new edit deserves a steelbook or digibook :)

limited edition of course so it saves shamless money

necroluciferia 16th April 2011 11:28 AM

Personally think a steelbook edition would be cool, and would be awesome if it came with a separate CD of the soundtrack. Also some sort of booklet about the history of the film would be nice, even better if it is written by Deodato :)

How about a novelty impaled woman keyring? :coolblue:

killfinger 16th April 2011 03:04 PM

Hell Yeah!
C.H. on bluray with a bunch of fine extras and a "FILM-REEL" tin (like that PiL album some thirty years ago, or the Birthcontrolpillcase box CANDY tin that Ancho Bay did years back) and I'd even toss in my text on Canibal Holocaust for free! :D

CiNEZiLLA - Falling asleep to movies since 1970: Cannibal Holocaust

darthelvis 17th April 2011 06:59 AM

Steelbox would be great with the soundtrack and some lobby cards.

BioZombie 17th April 2011 08:40 AM

I'd prefer a nice sturdy boxset (like Battle Royale for example), rather than a steel case or tin.

Ken 17th April 2011 09:32 AM

Would love to see a Dual format package ie. Blu ray with DVD included in the package as an alternative.

robertzombie 17th April 2011 11:41 AM

I think the dual format option is a must.

Daemonia 17th April 2011 11:47 AM

I think all of the suggestions are good so far. I'd personally like a steelbook. I'll be picking up the BD regardless, but limited edition packaging would certainly sweeten the deal.

I reckon that would be a good idea as it would end the 'Blu-ray or DVD' debate and would appeal to people with HD setups in one room but not elsewhere and those who don't yet have a Blu-ray player but are thinking of getting one in the future, thus future proofing their purchase.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 17th April 2011 11:54 AM

So many excellent ideas here. Personally the bigger the better for me. Since this is such a milestone in not only exploitation and film generally but now UK censorship a celebration is in order! Steelbook would be excellent as would a huge box like Battle Royale's, perhaps with a soundtrack and t-shirt as has been mentioned.

Or perhaps a box shaped like a turtle in which you have to rip it open to get all the goodness inside. Ooh or maybe a Cannibal Holocaust cookbook! :eyebrows:

Rotten 17th April 2011 08:44 PM

Cannibal Holocaust Packaging

If it was limited in number,I'd buy it......Love the film, Have it uncut, But a special Edition of the uk version would sit nice in the collection next to it......I have the old Vipco version, but maybe Shameless's version will be abetter quality print, too?

xxsic4slipknotxx 18th April 2011 01:23 AM

I'd personally would like it on both formats and region free! With maybe some lobby cards, poster, numbered edition, and packaged in a rustic/unearthed styles like this was actually "found footage".

Sarah@Cult Labs 18th April 2011 10:17 AM

Just a reminder that this poll closes on Thursday so remember to vote and to tell anyone who may be interested that they should vote too!

snipsmovies 19th April 2011 12:20 PM

Definitely DUAL FORMAT. With Eureka, BFI and Park Circus releasing this way, I think its the right shindig to join.

Gojirosan 19th April 2011 12:24 PM

Sure, why not. I bought the "Battle Royale" thing from Arrow.

trench 19th April 2011 12:26 PM

Sorry for the slight diversion, but isn't the photograph showing on Facebook and in the sidebar to promote this poll a little misleading? Unless there's definitely a t-shirt coming with this release.

That's my fault. Facebook randomly selects an image from the thread when you post a link and I forgot to change it. Will pop a disclaimer on the old FB now.

oinotna7 19th April 2011 12:32 PM

I already have the ultrabit limited/numbered edition, so I would prefer to buy a Blu-ray, something like the battle Royale limited edition would be very nice, and if it could have the soundtrack it would be fantastic.
