Ah, didn't realise Facebook did that type of trickery! I just thought a heads-up was in order, just in case anyone did get the wrong idea.

vinncent 19th April 2011 03:43 PM

This might be pushing it but.........how about a uncut version of the movie in HD? Seems like im the only one who cares about that!:-(

It will probably turn up uncut at some stage from a non-U.K based label, but as far as the good old BBFC/U.K censorship laws go, this is as good as you'll get I'm afraid.

Edited to add this link to the Cannibal Holocaust/BBFC advice discussion : http://www.cult-labs.com/forums/cann...fc-advice.html

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 19th April 2011 05:08 PM

Even if the uncut version does show up on Blu-ray at some point, I'd like to own both that and this version to have the full film and Deodato's new edit as that way I'll have different extra features, different artwork and different edits.

bigandya 19th April 2011 05:19 PM

Have Shameless ever considered setting up a non-UK based company (Shameless EU perhaps?) just for the purposes of releasing films like CH fully uncut?

Imagine the increased market for a fully uncut Blu Ray of this with all the extras... and you would be the only label in the world to be issuing it.

Of course you'd need worldwide distribution rights, but would the extra income be worth it?

You obviously haven't read any of my posts. If you had, you'd know you're not the only one who wants a full uncut version in HD. However, that's unlikely to ever happen here in the UK and we are therefore discussing the UK release, which, be fair, has an intrigue all of its own with Deodato supervising a new edit. Although I advocate seeing the film uncut, I'm also extremely interested in seeing Deodato's reworking of this ferocious classic and I commend Shameless for taking this brave step.

Anyway....back to limited edition packaging........

Phats 20th April 2011 10:41 AM

I voted for LE packaging on both but I wouldn't be too unhappy if it was just for the bluray. The idea about a Shameless EU is certainly an interesting concept but I doubt it'd be possible.

The logistics of setting up a sister company in Europe is probably tricky. However, If Vipco managed it....

I think Ltd Ed packaging should be available for both DVD and Blu-ray, so everyone can enjoy it! :)

I agree, as not everyone uses Blu-ray.

I've always been put off by Cannibal Holocaust, but for some strange reasons it's aroused my curiosity so I might give it a try once it's released.

Surprised that only 14 seconds will be cut from the film though.

robw285 20th April 2011 01:03 PM

My want would be the original GO VIDEO art work and an extensive feature length documentary on the film, it's making and its lengthy battles with the censors and it's current legacy to modern films and film makers (Eli Roth and Blair Witch etc)

nekromantik 20th April 2011 02:18 PM

For an extra, Shameless should do a documentary of the notoriety of CH.
That would be awesome.
Have interviews with film industry people and public and even deadato.

That's only the decision by the BBFC's advisory committee and it may be a different matter when it comes before the whole BBFC classification committee. However, that's for another thread.

As for this one, I would only buy a DVD for curiosity value and to see how it looks compared to the BD. As has been said, it may be an idea to do the limited edition release as a Combi pack containing a BD and DVD so that those with HD setups in one room can watch the film elsewhere and those who haven't yet made the jump to Blu-ray but are considering doing so won't have to double-dip on the limited edition release.

Any ideas how much a combined DVD/Blu-Ray set would bump up the retail price against single releases for each format?

If the Disney releases are anything to go by, not much. However, the pricing decision would be up to Shameless but, if it's anything like other companies, it'll probably be around £5.

Though I'm honestly not sure I want to buy a cut release (solely on principle), toss the soundtrack CD in a Blu-ray steelbook and I might just crack anyway...

Good call. I'm a big fan of the Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack.

Thanks for your votes and comments, everyone. I'm going to pass this info on to Shameless!

As the survey is closed, the thread will close too for now at least.

Thanks again.
