August 5 1966 - The second 'Doctor Who' film, 'Daleks Invasion Of Earth 2150AD' is released to UK cinemas. Based on the 1964 television series of the same name, for unknown reasons the date of the invasion as changed. In the William Hartnell story, it was 14 years later in 2164!

August 8, 1980 - Lucio Fulci's gorefest 'A Cat In The Brain' (AKA 'Nightmare Concert' and 'Un Gatto Del Cervello') is released to Italian cinemas. The film contains edited footage from 6 of Fulci's other films - Bloody Psycho (1989), Il fantasma di Sodoma (Sodoma's Ghost) (1988), Hansel e Gretel (1990), Massacre (1989), Non aver paura della zia Marta (The Murder Secret) (1988) and Touch of Death (1988). It also contains music from The Beyond (1981)

August 18 1634 - After being found guilty of witchcraft, Father Urbain Grandier is burned alive at the stake in Loudon, France. A group of nuns from a local convent had accused him of bewitching them, and sending demons to commit evil and impudent acts with them. Grandier was arrested, interrogated and tried by an ecclesiastical tribunal. Ken Russell's film 'The Devils' is based on these events
