Bloodfeast.? (Not sure)

This is something that bugs me too.

Especially when they release unrated DVDs to claw in more cash. It's akin to the whole football kit scam that clubs pull on fans each season.

However, it does remind me of the way the moral majority in America created backdoor censorship in the 80s with music, which illustrates why the net has helped to combat such draconian thinking.

When Tipper Gore and the PMRC targeted Metal and Hip-Hop it resulted in the famous Parental Advisory stickers we all know and love.

In the US offensive artists, famously substandard porno-rappers 2 Live Crew, had their free speech protected, but retailers also have the right to refuse any product they please.

There are plenty of independent record stores in New York and LA, but if you life in a small Mid-Western town then the only option would have been the shop in the nearest corporate shopping mall.

These Malls were often owned by large companies like Wal-Mart, who supported the restrictive policies of the right wing and they could apply pressure to firms who rented units in their shopping centres.

Result? Large parts of the country couldn't access artists deemed unsuitable and censorship slips in the back door, the constitution is legally bypassed and record companies then apply more pressure on the artists themselves to alter their work.

The nets role in combatting censorship is clearly apparent, allowing people access to work that the Christian Right would rather seems crushed.

I wonder why our Government is bringing in Porn laws and new rules on file sharing for service providers. It must be frustrating for those in power to know that there's a tool for free speech that anyone can access that they can't control.

Well some EU countries also have an 18 eg France - Martys and Baise Moi have both been awarded this rating in the past. I'm sure some of the others do as well.

Like it or loathe it the 18 rating is here to stay. It's been with us for about 30 years, it's not going to change. I can't see the BBFC passing Caligula with a 16 uncut.

If it wasn't for the VRA and the OPA I'm sure the BBFC would seriously consider passing whatever came their way. I think their guidelines would be put to rest.

Redemption have announced a Vampire Box set containing Draculas Daughter, Fascination and Requiem for a Vampire. And they say Requiem will be uncut! Did'nt that get about 7 min's cut from it a few years ago?

Requiem uncut? Wow, that's amazing. Didn't think they would do it. In fact I might have to ask them exactly how it could be passed uncut. This should be interesting.

Yes 7m to remove a huge amount of sexual violence.

I'd like to see the BBFC response to Requiem too, Angel. I'm surprised about this too.

Don't Go In The Woods and The Funhouse. The DVD of the former is only 18 rated due to the extras. Pranks and Blood Feast will definitely be downgraded next time around.

Yes I re-watched the uncut Requiem and it does come across as being a rather astonishing decision by the BBFC. I will wait to see confirmation on their site before emailing them. One things for sure they will have to pass Tombs of the Blind Dead now and... a few others.

Hopefully Redemption will actually submit Requiem to the BBFC. Their release of Night Of The Bloody Apes was uncut but was never officially submitted or listed.

Really? So NOTBA is illiegal?

The last time the BBFC saw Bloody Apes was the heavily edited Film 2000 DVD. It hasn't been submitted to them since.

EIV's uncut Flesh Gordon also has yet to be submitted.
