There is an active online community of activists who are dedicated to banning all kinds of things they find offensive. More often than not they have the support of powerful organizations.
As someone said earlier hang on to your old tapes and dvds because a lot of things are going to be tampered with or disappear altogether thanks to our modern day Mary Whitehouse minions.

I’m not entirely sure what else can be said about the whole Video Nasties scandal that hasn’t been said before, but it’s a subject that has always fascinated me so I’ll be on the look out for it when I head to Sainsbury’s on Thursday

So, last night I thought I would watch the STEPTOE AND SON movie on Talking Pictures. Before the film there was the usual warning about language blah, blah. As soon as the film started I knew something was up. The film was censored and cut to ribbons! Every now and then the soundtrack went off and as the words were mouthed on screen. I have not seen anything like this for a long time. Why have a warning and then cut every 'offensive' word out?
What was the fracking point of even putting the movie on? I turned it off as I could not bear to watch anymore.

Lords of Chaos on Film4 the other week had part of the suicide scene cut. To be fair the stuff that was cut was quite graphic but I was still surprised considering the film was shown after 11pm.
