Peter, do you know if the German censors 'police' Sony's PS3 direct download film service .?
Hostel 2 among many other Horror films in uncut or extended versions are on offer in HD or SD to buy or rent via direct download from the PS3 Movie store to all UK and Euro owners .
We get BBFC approved versions for UK owners and I wondered how the service was in other regions.

Well, I know my way better around physical media, so I hope Roughale or Playzocker will read this and clarify the isuue, but my strong guess would be that you can only get "FSK approved" versions for PS3 since the German "Index" wouldn't allow for any offer or listing being publicly available to read unless there was a restricted "adult's only" section.
And in the case of "Hostel Part 2", they could only have the "cut-by-3-mins" "FSK approved" version at offer as it would be illegal to sell the longer, banned cut, even to adults, in Germany.
"Hostel 2" is a particularly interesting case, as even "amazon.co.uk" reacted to the German banning, blocking orders from Germany for the DVD.
They seem to do this in some instances, but not with all titles banned in Germany.

On the 6th of September 2011 something yet unpresidented happened in Germany as a court in Frankfurt FINALLY lifted the banning of Tobe Hooper's original "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre"- after 26 years of being not legally available in Germany in its uncut form!

Congratulations have to go to the label "Turbine" who have been trying all in their power to get the classic off the list since 2008!

So wonders DO happen and reason can win over stately stubbornness- though it can obviously take ages...

EIT: Forgot to add the source...

Is that one of those landmark rulings which will see numerous other films being brought for reclassification, similar to what happened at the BBFC in 1998, when numerous films including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, A Clockwork Orange and The Exorcist were passed uncut in Britain?

What's more funny is Germany has a thriving porn industry... Just not on the net, illegal to show/download xxx on internet in Germany. Used to aply only to sites based in Germany, think they block most porn sites now. Seems too daft to be true.

It'll certainly have an effect, particularly since "Chainsaw" is/was one of the most famous titles on the list and I could imagine the same also happening to Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" or Raimi's "The Evil Dead" in the long run, but I doubt it that a radical change will surface in the near future, rather that more labels will dare to appeal individual bans.....but it's a first, important and- dare I say?- historical step in the right direction for the treatment of movies and the freedom of art.

So, things are probably looking up for German horror fans.

Its strange how countries vary what acceptable and not acceptable how you can get uncut of 1 film from say America and not here but same applies to other films u can get uncut here but not america. Its just wierd whats acceptable in 1 film but not another i personally would find the uncut version of putting the head through the bandsaw scene in intruder more disturbing than a 2 3 second clip of a womans nipple being cut in new york ripper.
