Different countries have different approaches to what is deemed 'acceptable', with continental Europe seemingly fairly liberal about nudity but wanting to clamp down hard on excessive violence, whereas the US seems fine about explosions, gunfire and death on a massive scale that sex and nudity is a big 'no-no'.

In terms of protecting children (the old phrase wheeled out whenever there is a contentious issue), I think seeing someone blown to bits [albeit faked) is going to be more harmful than seeing a woman's breasts!

I agree with you and talking about women's breasts....remember the 'media moralists' when Janet Jackson bared them for about 2 seconds at the superbowl some years ago?
The media went crazy implying kids seeing them is going to have an effect on them in later life or something, MAD YANKS

Its wierd you should mention that.

There isa pretty good article on Den of Geek on how come studios never release proper family films anymore that aren't animated. The recent Johnny English being a one off exception.

Have PG-13 and 12A killed off good live action family movies too? - Den of Geek

While old 80's action fare like "American Ninja", "Roadhouse", "Code of Silence" and "Delta Force" are getting increasingly regularly deleted from the "Index of restricted Movies" in Germany, often even scoring an "FSK 16" by the "FSK" at their resubmission to the ratings board, the BPJM doesn't hestitate to add new goodies to the list on a monthly basis, with "Saw VII" and even a real artistic gem like "I Saw the Devil" making thier dreaded "B-List" (B= deemed by the BPJM worthy of a ban so the films get send to a court for further determination) last month.
