Violent Italian Crime Movies

Hi everyone,

There's only a few more weeks until Shameless' newest release, the excellect Fulci film, Contraband comes to DVD!

So, to celebrate, here's a thread dedicated to the greatest Italian crime movies of all time. Being Fulci, it's no surprise that his only entry into the genre is oozing with over the top violent and gratuitous gore! So, what are the greatest, most violent films of the Italian Crime genre?

Post a poster or a still of some that spring to mind below! What films would you recommend? What would you love to see Shameless release in the future?

Keep your eye on this Official Forum Friday lunchtime too! We'll be announcing the brand new artwork for Contraband, including the front cover and the lenticular sleeve! You'll love it.

Any of the Maurizio Merli films would be worth a watch. Violent Rome, the Cynic the Rat and the Fist, Violent Naples, Rome armed to the teeth, from Corleone to Brooklyn, Fear in the City, Convoy Busters and my personal favourite a Special Cop in Action.

Demoncrat 30th April 2014 03:57 PM

The Big Racket
Fear In The City
The Naples Connection ;)

I really need more of these......

Pete 30th April 2014 05:26 PM

Confessions of a Police Captain
The Cynic, the Rat, and the Fist
The Last Round
High Crime
The Big Racket
Manhunt in Milan

Ricco The Mean Machine is also worth a look just for the castration scene.

I was disappointed the first time i saw The Last Round, feeling it was a half hearted attempt at A Fistful of Dollars. However, the more i've seen it the more it's growing on me.

The NoShame dvd has a rather fine soundtrack cd with it featuring several themes from seventies Italian action films including Almost Human

davcol 30th April 2014 07:31 PM

I thought Carlos Monzon was excellent in the Last Round considering he was a boxer and not an actor. Street Law is another winner.

Just finished watching street law for the umpteenth time. A classic of the genre.

Tough Ones aka Rome Armed to the Teeth, The Big Racket, Special Cop in Action. In fact you can't go wrong with most of Lenzi or Castellari's poliziotteschi films.

I think Enzo Castellari is my favourite of all Italian directors. Crime or otherwise. I find his films thoroughly entertaining.

What with that Eurocrime doc getting released
Thought I'd resurrect this thread ;)

See i take all the plaudits.

However credit where it's due. If Demoncrat hadn't 'liked' an ancient post of mine on this thread it would never have come to my attention. :hail:

Battery died just as I was replying dagnabbit

I've been a bit slack since the last post and have only seen Revolver (the Fabio Testi one )
This needs remedy, like so many other bleedin' things ....

He's a thoroughly lovely person too - I have had the pleasure of meeting him twice (in 1999 and 2012, respectively) and he's so smiley and such a pleasure to be around.

He comes across as a decent and enthusiastic person in his interviews.

Delighted this translates into real life , Paul.

It's always nice when you find out someone you admire is a decent person - I always try and have a disconnect between the art and its maker but it's a bonus when they're nice.

What are you favourite Castellari films Paul?

Street Law is my personal fave followed by The Inglorious Bastards - a film that is so darn watchable and action packed througout.

JAMIOUSE 1st August 2017 05:54 PM

There's actually a few trailers on the Nucleus release that look really good, some films I'd completely forgotten about and others I'd never heard of. I'd love to see Revolver, The Big Racket and Heroin Busters get the HD treatment from someone. Arrows release of Milan Calibre 9 was supposed to be a test to see how well it sold in the UK, they haven't really touched anything else since.

I saw Sinbad of the Seven Seas last night for the first time.

Wow that was bad! It looked excellent from the trailer too.

Is there any reason why it turned out such a mess? Then again perhaps you like it.

My first duff film from Enzo.

Ah
It's a scream. Cannon innit? The snake scene:laugh:
Plus Daria N. ;)

Justin101 7th August 2017 09:05 AM

I tried to watch the Eurocrime! doc last night, perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for it, but I only made it through 25 mins. It was interesting, but something about the way it's put together, the fake grindhouse overlays, the small windowed video sections to hide the low quality of the recording, the subtitles positioned really weird - it was all a bit much

I agree though, High Crime looked good, I had a quick look on Amazon but nothing was showing up. Could do with a bit more investigation later on!

Daria ruins it with the incessant voice over.

Had they never seen The Princess Bride which shows how to do this sort of thing properly.

I continued from where I left off last night after I'd watched GoT. It picks up greatly from Chapter 2 once it gets into the actors and directors and less about why the Italian film industry was the way it was. There are quite a few of these films I'd like to check out now. High Crime as previously mentioned, Ricco (aka Mean Machine), Milano Calibro 9 and Violent Naples.

Three very good films. Violent Naples being my favourite of the three.
