Competition Die You Zombie Bastards (2005)

Die You Zombie Bastards!

DIE YOU ZOMBIE BASTARDS (2005; Caleb Emerson)

Cited as being “The World's First EVER Serial Killer Superhero Rock'n'Roll Zombie Road Movie Romance” this film ticks ALL of those boxes. As well as countless more and more than that! Basically this film, has everything in it INCLUDING the kitchen sink. There’s a spaceship, half-man half-fish amphibious guy (its real name by the way!), a psychotic madman planning to take over the world with a gigantic you-know-what, dog-men, ninjas, a Robin like sidekick, Jamie Gillis – a famous porn star , a cannibalistic super-hero couple and plenty of tits, to name but a few things.

Made with practically no budget this film is by far one of the worst zombie films ever made, but that what makes it so god damn good! In the same vein as ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES this is a film which either knows it’s so bad it’s good or actually tries to be funny but falls flat, ironically making it hilarious. The lack of money is very evident mainly through the zombie make-up. Rather than go down the route of most Italian zombie films, for instance, knowing they have next to naught money and experience, all the zombies are not decaying but rather a luminous bright green, including three female zombie slaves which have their knockers out for the whole film!

Humour wise, as you’veguessed, is very sexual. Oh, who am I kidding, it is VERY VERY VERY sexual! It becomes quite tiresome at times, but as long as your in the ‘teenage’ mindset you should have a ball! As for the acting, well it is TERRIBLE! Seriously. The lead, Red, the cannibalistic super-hero, does not stop waving his bloody hands around! I don’t know whether he was trying to be funny in the sense of Jim Carrey but.... it actually is very funny! You can not help but laugh at this guy, despite the fact that he won a best actors award for this film (which won many other small awards too). I would hate to see who the worst actor was in that competition!

This Troma-like film’s dialogue is disastrous, the direction is dismal, the acting is atrocious, the story is stupid and everything else is terrible in this incredibly misogynistic film, except for the title song ‘Die You Zombie Bastards’ which is surprisingly good (heavy metal). But, if you are in the right mood, you will enjoy this film somewhat, if not you’ll probably turn it off within two minutes! Definitely, a modern cult film, I can’t wait to see the talked about sequel on the extras, which will, no doubt, will be equally bad.

I recommended getting this at a cheap price (which it normally is) with a couple of drinks too.

I love Die You Zombie Bastards.

It's extremely low budget but there's a hell of a lot of ambition on screen. You can tell it was a labor of love to make.
