It's the best tagline I've ever read, even better than "Where whores meet saw" from Torso

It really is. I don't want to sound all fawny-bum-lick for Pete but its probably the funniest thing I've ever read on this forum.

Yeah I'd forgotten about this - I think it may be a more important factor than I'd realised. Incidentally the evening I heard about HMV I'd just ordered a DVD from them - I was kinda worried - but they didn't let me down!

Daemonia 11th April 2013 01:57 AM

Nothing new from Shameless, then? Seems like they're incredibly inactive at the moment. Will they be releasing anything new? Does anyone know?

Probably Suspiria but who cares?

JAMIOUSE 11th April 2013 08:04 PM

If they were to release Suspiria surely they'd have put it out by now. I do wonder if the whole HMV thing delayed releases while they figured out a new system or online shop? Maybe the cost of titles has been a major factor too, we know that some rights holders want £20,000 for their titles.

Rik 11th April 2013 08:07 PM

I wouldn't be bothered if they didn't release anything until the summer, but not telling us anything is mighty frustrating, and saying "news coming soon" doesn't count for anything more than a fob off

Demdike@Cult Labs 11th April 2013 10:21 PM

Agree with Rik.

As this is supposedly Shameless' forum a simple statement on the state of play would be appreciated. :)

They have a new title up for pre-order on their Argent label so I wonder if they're focusing on that label instead?

It's another former Nouveaux title. I expect everything they announce in the future will come from that catalogue (which is no bad thing but I'd rather they shifted back to releasing rare stuff like FOOTPRINTS)

Guest House Paradiso, just to throw everyone off

Rik 29th April 2013 08:30 PM

Yeah, I'm sure Shameless are considering a move into comedy

Have they gone dormant due to low sales of their blu-rays? Probably help if they released uncut features in the format.

I think it's more the uncertainty of HMV's future that would have made them reticent in any further releases for the time being. The majority of their sales come from the high street

That makes sense, I forget that people still buy things from brick n mortar places (and at those prices!). Arrow seem to be doing the opposite these days with releases speeding up.

I know. It might not have been the case recently but there was definite confirmation from Almar on here who said that's where most of their revenue comes from. I was incredibly surprised although I could imagine the eye-catching covers inspiring a blind buy

The same thing happened with the gaudy VHS covers when I was young 'un looking around the local video shop so I can see this!

Demdike@Cult Labs 2nd May 2013 01:02 PM

It seems the HMV website will be up and running soon so you never know, Shameless might rise from their slumber.

JAMIOUSE 2nd May 2013 06:32 PM

It does seem strange that most of Shameless's revenue comes from highstreet sales, in this day and age almost everyone I know buys their DVD's and Blu's online. I always kinda thought people would do the same with Shameless and Arrow titles, if only to avoid 'those' looks from the counter staff. It's like buying an adult title and saying it's for a friend!

shel 2nd May 2013 08:32 PM

You're not wrong there! For me though the incentive for online buying is the massive price difference between online and in store. I've always found it easy to resist impulse buys in hmv because of that.

I know what you mean, but I remember buying Strip Nude For Your Killer and they just grinned at me - maybe that's worse though!

I remember eye rolling from the shop assistant when I bought Oasis of the zombies and Zombie Lake dvds so I can imagine the grin when buying that!

Ha!
I remember buying Silence of the Lambs and Child's play on vhs in Virgin in Stirling when I had my eldest daughter in the buggy...the look I got from the sales assistant....

Rik 2nd May 2013 09:30 PM

Same when I rented the VHS of Cronenberg's Crash from Blockbusters when it came out, the guy serving me looked at me and said something along the lines of "So you're renting Crash eh, you sick or summat?", I replied with "Yes thanks" and walked out, his face was a picture

Demoncrat 4th May 2013 10:20 AM

So imagine the looks you'll all get when Shameless finally do release SS Experiment Camzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ha, I remember joking to my young Nephew about Texas Chainsaw Massacre being a comedy (It is funny in places at least)
when he was looking at DVDs in a shop, only to turn around to some woman giving me the evil eye!

Vampix 5th May 2013 07:41 PM

I remember getting similarly funny looks from the shop assistants in HMV when buying Land of the Dead, The Devil's Rejects and Switchblade Romance in their three DVDs for twenty quid offer a few years ago. :D

I'd have told them that if they thought those were bad, they have no business in a place like that, and would be better off working in Macdonalds!

Andra Jai 5th May 2013 08:39 PM

Back in the day of buying video cassettes I ordered a sell thru tape of David Cronenberg's Shivers in Boots.

I received the usual phone call to say that the tape was there to be picked up only to be greeted at the counter by the shop assistant saying that she had taken it upon herself to watch the first 10 mins of the tape and found the content to be vile and sickening.

I don't to this day know what was more disturbing, her taste in films or the fact that they were obviously allowing their staff to watch ordered tapes before giving them to the people who paid for them.

That's nothing, some years back I remember ordering VHS tapes of Mark of the Devil and Zombie Holocaust from abroad only to have them seized by UK customs. They sent me a rather nasty letter saying if I tried to get them back I could be prosecuted, as both titles were deemed obscene.I hadn't even seen the film's at the time so didn't know how ridiculously tame they were. So, I didn't try to get them back and as far as I know they were destroyed (but more likely they ended up in a customs officer's own video collection). The point is though, is that I was made to feel as if I was ordering child porn and not the two cheesy old horror films we know and love. :mmph:

same thing happened to me only with a US tape of Driller Killer.

I bet those customs boys amassed quite a collection of free horror tapes back in the day

Gothmogxx 6th May 2013 08:54 PM

Guess I'm the odd one out here then: I bought the likes of House on the Edge of the Park and Cannibal Holocaust (shameless editions) from my local HMV and none of the nearby staff cared! Usually a couple of them that I talk to just engage me in friendly conversation about my purchases. In fact, the only time I remember a negative reaction was when I bought The first two Bronx Warriors and the "Fulci box of terror" boxset where they said "You've picked the worst ones available". :pound:
